Hola Espana! The Formula 1 roadshow heads to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for round 10 of the season – and the first leg of a European triple header!

It’s fair to say F1 has been dragged out of the doldrums as Red Bull and Max Verstappen’s complete and utter domination seems like a thing of the past and the most recent race, the Canadian Grand Prix, was a certified banger.

Okay, sure, the Dutchman still took the chequered flag, but the wild weather conditions in Montreal coupled with Mercedes being the latest team to take a big step forward meant it was a proper battle at the head of proceedings.

While Verstappen and Red Bull are still the favourites to win the drivers’ and constructors’ titles respectively, the battles in both championships are heating up as the races come thick and fast before the summer break.

I’ve run the rule over Paddy Power’s odds for the Spanish Grand Prix and picked out a couple of fancies. Let’s get into gear and head on over!

#WhatOddsPaddy – Max Verstappen to Win the Race & Lando Norris to Finish on the Podium

The last four rounds have been tricky for Red Bull as their upgrades haven’t exactly fired and their closest competitors have seriously closed the gap.

Despite their relative struggles, Max Verstappen has still pulled two victories out of the bag and is backed to take the chequered flag in Spain for the third year in a row.

Crucially, the Bulls have pinpointed the Spanish Grand Prix as their weekend to restore their advantage over their rivals and the layout of the track should not expose the flaws in the RB20.

Lando Norris probably should have bagged the win in Canada but his second place still took his recent record to an impressive four podiums from the last five races and McLaren seem to be the best of the challengers to Red Bull.

Points Finish – Fernando Alonso & Lance Stroll

Aston Martin have been underwhelming in 2024, but Canada proved to be a proper bounce back to form as Fernando Alonso came home in sixth and Lance Stroll was just behind in seventh.

Sure, it helped that three drivers that would naturally be ahead in the running order – Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz – failed to finish, but they displayed plenty of pace in qualifying.

Aston Martin enjoyed a solid weekend in last year’s Spanish Grand Prix as both drivers reached Q3 before converting to a decent haul of points, while Alonso has previously won here twice and Stroll delivered a terrific performance for Racing Point in 2021.

Their bid to bag double points should also be aided by Red Bull number two Perez being handed a three-place grid penalty.

#WhatOddsPaddy – Mercedes to Have the Fastest Lap

Mercedes are slowly getting their act together and had the fastest car in Canada as George Russell bagged pole and finished on the podium.

Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, recorded the fastest lap to make it three successive bonus points for the Silver Arrows. They might have the pace once again to make it four in a row.
