Rejoice! After ludicrously early start times to catch the last three rounds of the Formula 1 season, you can put the alarm clock to one side this weekend as the roadshow heads Stateside!

The party city of Miami stages the sixth round of the campaign and Max Verstappen is bidding to continue his red-hot start to 2024 after cruising to Race and Sprint successes in China a fortnight ago.

Red Bull’s main man has taken the chequered flag in the two previous editions of the Miami Grand Prix and he gets the chance to rack up even more points as it’s another Sprint Weekend.

I’ve run the rule over Paddy Power’s odds for the Miami Grand Prix and picked out a few fancies. Let’s get into gear and head on over!

Miami Grand Prix
Sprint Shootout: Friday 9:30pm
Sprint: Saturday 5pm
Qualifying: Saturday 9pm
Race: Sunday 9pm
TV: Sky Sports F1

#WhatOddsPaddy – Max Verstappen to Win the Sprint Race & Charles Leclerc to Finish on the Podium in the Sprint Race

We’re getting to the point where tipping Verstappen to take the chequered flag shouldn’t really require explanation, but I will point out that he still won the Sprint in China despite only placing fourth in the Sprint Shootout.

Ferrari endured a disappointing weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit as they failed to lay a glove on Red Bull and lost ground in the constructors’ championship. Miami represents a chance to bounce back.

An emerging trend in the last three Grands Prix is Charles Leclerc underperforming in Qualifying before making up ground in the Race. The Monegasque did the same in the Sprint Shootout and Sprint in China, but I’d expect a much better performance in this weekend’s Sprint Shootout to tee him up for a successful Sprint.

Leclerc grabbed pole at the first Miami Grand Prix in 2022 and the Ferrari should be suited by the high-speed straights and low-speed corners, while his competition for a place on the podium after Verstappen should only be Red Bull number two Sergio Perez, team-mate Carlos Sainz and McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Sprint Race Top 8 Finish – Kevin Magnussen

He’s only earned one point so far in 2024 but Kevin Magnussen‘s having a decent season and Haas are proving a competitive outfit.

The VF-24 remains quick in a straight line, which should prove helpful in Miami, and it, crucially, doesn’t eat through tyres at an alarming rate like its predecessor.

Magnussen is capable of pulling out a cracker over one lap and placed fourth in Qualifying for last year’s Race.

If he can get into the third session of the Sprint Shootout that should see him in the mix for a Top 8 Finish, especially if some of the teams ahead of Haas with draggier cars get their set-ups wrong after one practice session.

#WhatOddsPaddy – Max Verstappen to Win the Race & Yuki Tsunoda to Finish in the Points

Verstappen has won both editions of the Miami Grand Prix, four out of five Races this season and the Red Bull is a rocket ship. He should Win the Race.

He let us down in China but, once again, I’m backing Yuki Tsunoda to Finish in the Points.

One of the most exciting battles on the grid is between RB and Haas in the fight for sixth in the constructors’ championship, with fuel added to the fire as both teams are bringing upgrades to Miami. I’m hoping the new parts will bring about an improvement in the VCARB 01 and confirm the team’s superiority as the best of the rest behind the leading five teams. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll is having a poor season and, coupled with his less-than-stellar record in Miami, could easily finish outside the top 10 thus opening the door.

Tsunoda has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign – if you put a line through China – and is capable of putting it together, especially if the chance to make changes after the Sprint is fully optimised.
