Why is the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Saturday? Practice, qualifying and race schedule

F1 heads back to Saudi!

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

Eyes are already turning to race two on the Formula One calendar, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix!

Defending world champion Max Verstappen dominated the opening race in Bahrain last weekend, setting the tone for the season with many believing no other driver will get close to him in the championship.

Verstappen managed to block out the off-track chaos surrounding Red Bull and finished a remarkable 22 seconds in front of his closest challenger and teammate Sergio Perez.

On the track, Ferrari were Red Bull’s closest challenger, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finishing third and fourth respectively. The Mercedes, McLaren and Aston Martin drivers rounded out the top ten.

Verstappen will be hoping to make it two from two when F1 touches down in Saudi Arabia this coming weekend and just like Bahrain, the race will be taking place on a Saturday instead of Sunday.

You can find all the Formula 1 odds on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise, here’s everything you need to know ahead of the weekend.

2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix schedule

The weekend in Jeddah begins a day earlier than normal:

Thursday, March 7: Practice 1 and 2
Friday, March 8: Practice 3 and Qualifying
Saturday, March 9: Race

Why is the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix race on a Saturday?

Like Bahrain, the schedule for Saudi Arabia has been moved forward a day. This is because the Islamic holy month of Ramadan is due to start on Sunday, March 10, the day the race would normally have taken place.
