It’s the most wonderful time of the year. That’s right, it’s World Cup knockout time, people! And it’s down to The Netherlands and the USA to get us underway at 3pm on Saturday.
The Dutch strolled to top spot in Group A while The States needed a nail-biting do-or-die decider against Iran which they just pipped 1-0. Now these two will duke it out for the right to take on Argentina or Australia in the quarter finals.
It feels like it’s going to be tight and both sides have only conceded a goal apiece. You might be settling in for extra time but Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson has other ideas. Here’s his best bets for Saturday’s early game.

The round of 16 starts here and The Netherlands haven’t been too good, I don’t think they’ve expended too much energy either though. I think they’ll secure a comfortable win.
USA, I think they’ve done ever-so well, they really frightened England, they got out of the group and they’ll be absolutely delighted with how they’ve done. But I’m going for Netherlands to Win this one.
In terms of a goal scorer there’s one who’s really caught my eye. That’s Cody Gakpo and he’s done really well so far with a goal in each game. He’s been absolutely fantastic so I’ll go with The Netherlands to Win and Cody Gakpo to Score Anytime.
