Sunday 7pm: England v Senegal
TV: ITV1 and RTE2

It was a cagey start for England against Wales but they were always in control. I’d like to see England go for teams from the start but in the second half it changed and was far more dynamic.

Then, when Rashford scored the goal we relaxed and you knew it would be a comfortable victory.

I don’t know how you could drop him now, but Gareth Southgate has good options whoever he chooses to play. He can pick players now depending on the opponent.

It’s a toss-up between Foden and Saka versus Senegal. It really comes down to if he wants more guile or pace against them.

Anytime Goalscorer: Harry Kane

Harry Kane’s not scored yet and he won’t be happy about that. He’s the kind of player who’d have his eye on the Golden Boot before the tournament, let alone a goal or two.

But he’s still contributing really well. His hold-up play and cleverness around the pitch, the ability to draw fouls and create for others means he’s still a bit part of the team even when he’s not scoring.

And the goals will come. When a big chance comes in a knock-out game, you want it to fall to him, so I’m sticking with him as a goalscorer in this game.

Player to Have 1+ Shots on Target: Ismaila Sarr

Senegal have looked a decent side and they’ve lots of players that we’d know from playing their football in England, so we know they’ve quality.

It’d be stupid to disrespect them by looking ahead to the next round as some people are doing – it’s a very traditional English thing to do and then underestimate the team in front of you.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

They are missing some big names though. Idrissa Gueye is suspended, and Sadio Mane’s obviously out for the tournament. they won the African Cup of Nations, but Mane was key to that.

It means there’s a lot resting on Ismaila Sarr to carry a threat here and he will be their danger man.

Player to Commit 1+ Fouls: Declan Rice

They will be strong in midfield too despite Gueye’s absence. It’ll be key to the game who comes out on top there.

I’d expect it to be a real battle and Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham will be kept busy.

England to Win

Kalidou Koulibaly had to come up with the crucial goal versus Ecuador for them to get through. It was his first international goal.

With Mane out, you’d wonder whether they’ve enough firepower to really test England. Will they score? I’m hoping not even if it is a very cagey game. And I think England will come out on top in the end because they’ve more attacking weapons.

Over 5.5 England Corners

Corners have been a big part of England’s plans at the last few tournaments and with the way they play and the wide players they have you’d expect more in this for them again when they attack Senegal.
