Arsenal v Man City, Sunday, 6th August, 4pm
TV: Sky Sports Main Event
I’ve been very impressed by Arsenal’s transfer business this summer.
Declan Rice is top player, Kai Havertz is a bit of a wild card, and Jurrien Timber looks a solid addition – no pun intended.

Rice is a player you can hang your hat on though. I love him as player, he’ll be great in the dressing room and looks like a future England captain to me.
He’s a real leader – we saw him last season dragging them to the Europa Conference win. He’s an excellent carrier of the ball, he’s brilliant as a defensive midfielder, and now, in a btter team with better players around him he could also
It’s hard to see Havertz replacing one of their forward line, but he’s a versatile player and adds depth to their squad because he play in so many positions.
City have also been busy. They had to replace Gundogan, who was such a big player for them last season – he was worth his weight in gold, if they needed a goal, he’d get it, if they needed a bit of craft, he find it.
But Mateo Kovacic looks like one of those signings that can just slip straight in to their team.
And we’ll probably see an even better version of him now when he’s playing with the likes of Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and the rest of City’s top players.
It’s a pity to see Riyad Mahrez leave – he’s been one of favourite players to watch in the Premier League – but it almost felt like they didn’t really need him last year, wich sounds like such a strange thing to say.
As much as I like him, I don’t think they’ll miss him that much unless they suffer a lot of big injuries.
And they shouldn’t miss him on Sunday either.
Maybe it’s because I scored the winner in one, but I always think the Community Shield can be an important game for teams to start the season.
It’s a game to get everyone excited about the start of the season. It’s also a chance to get one over on a team that’s going to be challenging you this year in other competitions.

Psychologically, it can count for something if you beat the other lot when you play them in the league.
I expect an enjoyable, open game on Sunday, these are two teams who try to play football the right way, but I still think City will come out on top in an entertaining game.
Haaland’s already been scoring in preseason and is clearly going to be a popular choice this season if he’s anything like he was last year.
I can also see Phil Foden involved here, so he’ll be a threat, but Kevin De Bruyne’s back in training in time for the start of the season and is always like to cause problems for defences.
Bukayo Saka can go to another level this year for Arsenal. I love watching him play and he should be a big threat to City this weekend.
These are two good footballing sides so I don’t expect this to get too spicy in terms of cards and tackles flying, but Rodri versus Rice will be an interesting battle to watch and there could be a few tactical trips and fouls.
