EFL Betting Tips: Our Wednesday Championship and League One best bets add up to 15/1 acca

Plenty of midweek action in the EFL to sink your teeth into.

After a 17/1 acca winner on the weekend, Matthew O’Regan is back to attempt it again. His five best bets combine for a 14.45/1 acca and include games from the Championship and League One.

EFL Wednesday Betting Tips

Luton v Sunderland – Over 2.5 goals
Middlesbrough v Sheffield United – Under 2.5 goals
Birmingham v Bolton – Over 1.5 Birmingham goals
Burton Albion v Wycombe – Over 2.5 goals
Peterborough v Blackpool – Over 2.5 goals

Luton v Sunderland – Over 2.5 goals

Championship match at Kenilworth Road

Luton shocked many by getting promoted to the Premier League, beating Coventry in a dramatic playoff final. Their recruitment was focused on building a team capable of bouncing straight back up should they be relegated. However, things have failed to click for the Hatters thus far.

Rob Edwards had a quiet summer in 2024, with just seven new signings and four departures. In what promised to be a season of continuity and one to build a platform for another promotion, his side flattered to deceive and sat 17th.

Still, they will be buoyed by a dominant 3-0 win over bitter rivals Watford – just their third win of the season.

Saturday’s win made it 5/5 games at Kenilworth Road that have seen over 2.5 goals.

Sunderland are defying the odds this season as they sit top of the Championship. Regis Le Bris is getting the most out of his youthful side, which continues to show impressive attacking prowess.

Away from home, their games average three goals, with 3/5 seeing over 2.5 goals.

Middlesbrough v Sheffield United – Under 2.5 goals

Championship match at The Riverside Stadium

The Riverside plays host to an intriguing clash between two promotion-chasing teams, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United.

‘Boro will be looking to bounce back after an unexpected 0-2 loss at home to Bristol City that saw them drop down to ninth. Michael Carrick will be disappointed with his side’s attacking potency, with their ten goals scored the fewest in the top half.

Despite this, he can take some solace in the defensive record, conceding just nine goals. Middlesbrough games average just 1.9 goals, with 8/10 games and 4/5 at home, with under 2.5 goals.

Sheffield United were the only unbeaten team left in the EFL before losing 2-0 away at Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

Chris Wilder’s side still boasts the second-best defensive record, conceding just five goals. However, they have also scored the second-fewest goals in the top half, with their games averaging 1.7 goals per game. Every single away game and 9/10 games have seen under 2.5 goals – the most in the league.

The two promotion hopefuls should cancel each other out in a tight, cagey game.

Birmingham v Bolton – Over 1.5 Birmingham goals

League One match at St Andrew’s

With the backing Birmingham have – both financially and in the stands, they have the potential to be one of the most dominant teams League One has ever seen. Chris Davies’ side are two points clear at the top of the league with a game in hand as they look to pull away from the chasing pack.

The main strength of this Birmingham side is its attacking prowess, with 20 goals scored a league-high. Of their ten games, they’ve scored 2+ in seven, scoring just one against Reading and Huddersfield while drawing a blank away at the defensively resolute Charlton.

Bolton are the visitors to St. Andrews. Ian Evatt’s side lost in last season’s playoff final and started the season low on confidence. However, five games unbeaten have seen the Trotters push up to 11th, now just one point outside the playoffs.

The 2-1 win over Burton summed up Wanderers perfectly. Strong going forward but vulnerable defensively. Bolton have conceded 16 goals this season, conceding at least two in six games, keeping just two clean sheets.

With Bolton’s strength in attack, seeing them on the scoresheet would not be a surprise. Therefore, Birmingham must score twice to continue their good run of form.

Burton Albion v Wycombe – Over 2.5 goals

League One match at Pirelli Stadium Princess Way

Wycombe and goals have become a recurring theme this season. Matt Bloomfield’s side have scored at least two goals in all bar one game this season and boasts the joint-best attacking record in the league.

The 1-3 win over Peterborough on the weekend showcased their strength in depth in attack, with Richard Kone coming off the bench to score a nine-minute hat trick.

The Chairboys’ games are averaging 3.4 goals, with 8/10 games seeing over 2.5 goals, including all five away from home.

Burton Albion are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, yet to win a game this season. After years of loitering in the lower echelons of the table, ambitious Scandinavian owners Nordic Football Group backed new manager Mark Robinson with 23 new signings.

As expected, the Brewers squad have taken a long time to gel, and those connected with the club will be beginning to panic. Their games have averaged 3.2 goals, with over 2.5 landing in 8/10.

Peterborough v Blackpool – Over 2.5 goals

League One match at Weston Homes Stadium

Peterborough lost to Oxford in last season’s playoff semi-finals and lost key players such as Harrison Burrows, Ronnie Edwards and Josh Knight. This turnover is nothing new for Posh, who have developed a reputation for their savvy recruitment policy.

This year’s squad is one of their youngest to date, and the inexperience often rears its head. Darren Ferguson’s side have dropped points from winning positions in four of their last six games. Peterborough are level with Wycombe and Birmingham with goals scored but also have conceded the league’s most goals with 24, failing to keep a clean sheet this season.

Their games average 3.66 goals, and 9/12 of them have seen at least three goals, including their last seven.

Blackpool have also had an inconsistent start to the season. Neil Critchley was sacked after just two games, and the experienced Steve Bruce was hired as his replacement. The Tangerines sit 14th—one place above Peterborough due to their superior goal difference.

With 18 goals scored and 18 conceded in 11 games, their games have seen an average of 3.3 goals. 8/11 of Blackpool’s away games have seen over 2.5 goals.
