‌Robin Le Normand to commit 2 or more fouls

Another weekend, another massive European derby in a major city as Atletico and Real do battle in Madrid. In what will come as a surprise to absolutely nobody, this game is always fiercely contested and with an average of over 5 cards per game across the last 14 meetings.

Robin Le Normand is an absolute machine when it comes to fouls. The Spaniard has committed 2 or more fouls in 6 of his 7 appearances this season for Atletico and has been booked in 2 of those games.

He also committed 3 fouls in both of Spain’s Nations League fixtures during the international break, being booked in one and sent off in the other after just 20 minutes against Switzerland. In 2 appearances against Real Madrid for Real Sociedad last season, he made 2 fouls in one and was booked in the other.

Put simply, he’s a complete liability when it comes to attempting tackles and regularly gets drawn in to niggly battles with opposition attackers which he can’t compete in. In his role at right centre back, he’ll be opposing Vinicius Junior, who is one of the most fouled players in Europe and Rodrygo who is also drawing 1.77 fouls per 90.

Le Normand will happily foul anyone in any game but this match looks the perfect storm for 2 or more and so to be getting close to evens for that alone feels a belter of a price.

Robin Le Normand to be shown a card

On the booking front, Le Normand has been booked in 48 of his 208 career appearances and sent off twice. Last season in La Liga saw him collect 13 yellow cards which was the third highest total of any player.

We know all about his foul record already but whilst some players seem to rack up lots of soft fouls without getting carded, Le Normand is no stranger to a cynical foul as he regularly gets dragged out of position and his lack of pace leaves him no option but to pull a shirt or scythe down the attacker.

Pace is something that Real Madrid have in abundance and if Robin does get drawn in to the middle of the park, we should see some of that cynicism at play. A key factor when considering backing players to be booked is the referee and we have a good one here!

Mateo Busquets Ferrer has so far dished out 5 yellows and 2 red cards per game and so he’ll be whipping out the cheddar at every opportunity. He’s also no stranger to Le Normand, having booked him the last time he was the referee in a game he played in.

Atletico Madrid to make 15 or more fouls

The final leg of our betbuilder, which boosts the price nicely, is for the home side to commit at least 15 fouls. Busquets Ferrer has awarded more fouls per game than any other La Liga referee this season with 29.75 per game which is a good place to start.

Atletico’s foul numbers have been uncharacteristically low this season at just 10 per game but it’s safe to say that when Real come to town, Diego Simeone’s side bust out the darkest of their arts.

They made at least 15 fouls in 3 of the 4 meetings between the sides last season across league and cup with totals of 15, 20 and 19 in the most recent of those games and have covered this line in 9 of the last 11 head-to-heads. We have a whistle happy referee, good match-ups all over the pitch and everything to suggest this will be a feisty affair with plenty of Atletico infringements.
