Brentford v Fulham
Over 2.5 goals
Brentford and Fulham have been two of the most free-scoring sides in the bottom half of the table so far this season.
Brentford’s record of 52 goals scored is the joint-best record in the bottom half, along with Brighton, while Fulham’s record of 51 goals scored is just below.
Both sides have already secured Premier League survival, meaning Saturday’s clash should be a relatively free-flowing game, with little pressure on either team.
Fulham have been involved in a number of high-scoring games of late, with ten of their last 13 league outings witnesses three goals or more. Brentford, on the other hand, have oscillated from high-scoring games to drab low-scoring affairs in recent months. However, six of their last ten games have seen at least three goals.
There is a good chance there will be plenty of goals at the Gtech.
Fulham most corners
They may have scored almost the same number of goals this season, but Fulham have far outstripped Brentford in terms of corners in 2023/24.
Marco Silva’s side have won the seventh-most corners in the division, with 201 in 35 games so far. Brentford, on the other hand, have won the sixth-fewest in the league, with 166 in the same number of games.
It is hardly surprising, given Fulham average more shots and more shots on target as well as a far higher average possession rate. With all that in mind, they are good value to win the most corners,
Burnley v Newcastle
Burnley over five shots on target
Newcastle simply cannot find any consistency this season.
Eddie Howe’s side followed up a 4-0 victory over Tottenham with a 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, which they then followed with a 5-1 victory over Sheffield United.
They have found the going particularly tough away from home, where they have won just two of their last 13 Premier League games. Howe’s side conceded 31 goals in those 13 games, which will give some hope to relegation-threatened Burnley, who desperately need a result.
Burnley were excellent at Old Trafford last weekend and registered seven efforts on target. They have registered 33 shots on target in six games since the international break and will have to go for broke at some stage this weekend.
Sheffield United v Nottingham Forest
Over 4.5 cards
Nottingham Forest are running out of chances to save their Premier League hides. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have won just once in ten league outings, which has seen them drop to within a point of the relegation zone (with a little help from a four-point deduction).
They absolutely must win at Bramall Lane on Saturday, which could be a feisty affair.
Sheffield United, who are already relegated, boast the third-worst disciplinary record in the league this season, amassing 91 bookings and four red cards at an average of almost three per game. Forest, meanwhile, have the eighth-worst record in the league, collecting 75 yellow cards and three sending offs at a rate of over two per game.
With so much on the line on Saturday – for Forest anyway – it is not difficult to imagine a large number of cards being issued.
Sheffield United v Nottingham Forest
Chris Wood to have 2+ shots on target
It was Chris Wood who made the difference when Forest beat Sheffield United back in August and Forest will owe a significant portion of their survival to his goals if they do escape the drop.
The New Zealander has scored an impressive 12 goals for Forest in the Premier League this season – at least double the tally of any other Forest player. That figure is even more impressive when one considers he has only made 17 league starts.
Wood only averages 2.1 shots per game for Forest, but that also includes 11 substitute appearances, meaning he is likely to attempt far more when playing from the start.
Considering he is playing against a hapless Sheffield United defence, that is on the cusp of becoming the first side in history to concede 100 goals in a 38-game season, Wood is good value to find the target at least twice. He may even score twice!
