Leicester v West Brom

Despite their recent struggles, Leicester are still on course to achieve promotion. They sit inside the top-two and crucially they have a game in hand over Ipswich and Leicester. That being said, there is still huge pressure on those clubs at the top as the fear of potentially having to go through the play-offs undoubtedly worries them.
With that being the case, West Brom stand a good case of being more than competitive in this game. Leicester have lost back-to-back games (both away), but they’ve also lost two of their last four at home, so the King Power Stadium isn’t necessarily of big comfort to them right now, especially with the recent jeers of some supporters.
Albion have their own cause to play for, in terms of sealing a play-off spot, but they’d take a point here. They’ve only suffered defeat by a two goal margin or greater once in their seven meetings with the top-four clubs this season, including taking four points from Ipswich and Leeds. In fact, only three times all season in league action have they lost by 2+ goals. Only twice in 2024 has Leicester won by a 3+ margin, too.

Things are clearly getting tense in the Leicester camp. A five-game winning run in league and cup a few months ago has been followed by a sequence of just three victories in ten league matches.
They did have enough chances to beat Plymouth, but interestingly of the five goals they’ve scored in their previous five encounters, only one of those was scored by an out-and-out striker. The confidence of Patson Daka and Jamie Vardy may be knocked a little after missing some big chances recently, but Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is maybe a more reliable scoring prospect at present.
He netted two of those five goals, and having recently been named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season, he’ll be keen to show exactly why. Big players step up in the big games and when his team needs it the most, and having averaged 2.5 shots over the last four matches, this shows he is one of their big goals threat right now. He’ll be eager to score against West Brom, especially having done so already this season.
Under 3.5 goals
Any regular viewer of Championship football recently will surely be aware of the highly pressured circumstances which surround all games involving teams with something to play for. Leeds losing to Blackburn and drawing to Sunderland, Ipswich drawing at home to both Middlesbrough and Watford, and Leicester losing at struggling Plymouth and Millwall. All big games and all containing few goals; certainly under 3.5, and that theme should continue.
Whilst West Brom have seen three of their last four away matches contain at least four goals, all were against relegation candidates. All of their seven season meetings against the top-four has not gone above the 3.5 goal line. In fact, only one of their away encounters at top-half clubs has done so, too. They pay respect to the opponents in these type of games and will still acknowledge Leicester is a top team, albeit in a shaky period. That, combined with the tension of the situation points towards anything but a feast of goals.

Thomas Bramall has been assigned to officiate this match and he is no stranger to dishing out cards this season. He has mostly split his time between Premier League and EFL Championship fixtures and only once has he failed to give out at least two bookings in any game.
This is the time of year where a degree of desperation comes into play from clubs depending on what they are playing for. Therefore, this should be a busy period for the officials, and Bramall should give out at least three cards here, considering Leicester and West Brom have something on the line. It’s been a winning selection in Leicester’s last three matches as tensions increase. West Brom’s last match had eight yellows awarded, keeping in line with the expected nerves towards the end of the campaign.
