Sunday 4.30pm: Peterborough v Wycombe
EFL Trophy final match at Wembley Stadium

TV: Sky Sports Football

Match Odds: Peterborough

This season’s EFL Trophy final pits two League One sides against each other as Peterborough take on Wycombe at Wembley. The Posh are pushing hard to secure another promotion playoff spot, after losing out at that stage to Sheffield Wednesday last season, and they head into this game in fourth place in the league table.

Wycombe are now easing into mid-table after removing themselves from the relegation battle. Six league wins from eight puts Peterborough as the firm favourites to win this one and secure their first trophy since winning the competition back in 2014.

Over 2.5 goals

The two league meetings between these sides this season were full of goals, with a 2-2 draw at Peterborough, and Wycombe winning 5-2 at home. Alongside those numbers, six of Peterborough’s last seven matches have featured over 2.5 goals scored and five of their seven EFL Trophy games this season have also hit that mark. Three of Wycombe’s four EFL Trophy knockout games have also featured over 2.5 goals scored.

Both teams to score

Those two meetings in League One saw both teams get on the scoresheet and six of their last eight head-to-head battles have included a goal scored for each team. Peterborough have found the back of the net in 13 of their last 14 games across all competitions but only kept two clean sheets on that run.

Wycombe drew a blank in their 0-0 draw with Blackpool last weekend which was the first time they failed to score in nine games.

Ephron Mason-Clark to score

The goals of Ephron Mason-Clark have powered Peterborough’s promotion challenge this season with 14 in league action and 19 overall. A goal in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Leyton Orient ended a sticky run of form in front of goal and he is Posh’s main attacking threat.  Based on league data, he averages 3.9 shots per game and is second in the division for overall shots taken this season (116).
