The Premier League is kicking into its final stretch now and we’ve reached the point where there’s so much emphasis on picking up points. And it got me thinking about my betting patterns lately.

I spend a lot of time digging around secondary markets, looking for some insightful way into a value play. Then I realised that everyone’s just slightly more erratic and result-focused at this time of year, where processes and styles go out the window moreso than at any other time in the season.

So, in somewhat of a throwback to my younger days, I decided to indulge a 3pm Bet Builder across all the kickoffs, so you can be truly engaged in the age-old format of results coming in in tandem and shaking up the league table as it unfolds.

Better run off to get the newspaper and a breakfast roll to boot

Aston Villa v Brentford

Aston Villa to Win

For all that it pains me as a Birmingham City fan, Aston Villa are by far and away the biggest surprise package of the year. There’s almost a trend of managers who get an unfair lashing at a bigger club, only to go elsewhere and overachieve. Unai Emery is a prime example.

In theory, their season takes a retrospective downward turn if they finish outside the top four, but they’re just so efficient, and backing them at this kind of price is my kind of bet.

The issue people will have with Villa is that they’ve only won three of their last even games. And that increases the price somewhat. I’m happy to back them to beat Brentford, coming off the back of a half-hearted effort to beat Man City.

Everton v Burnley

Burnley and Draw

The Sean Dyche derby that we all know and love. I’m slightly curious as to why Everton are such a short price to win this game when they haven’t won at home since December 10.

I take the point that Burnley are picking up less than a point a game, but they’ve also not lost any of their last four games in the Premier League, including tough away trips to Chelsea and West Ham.

It’s the only play.

Fulham v Newcastle

Both Teams to Score

Do you know how Christmas feels like about six years ago? Well, Newcastle have scored in every single Premier League game since then. They’ve also kept just one clean sheet since then, too.

Equally, Fulham themselves have scored in every Premier League game since a 0-0 draw with Everton back in January. It’s the shortest-priced selection on this list but that’s for an obvious reason.

Luton v Bournemouth

Bournemouth to Win

Luton are the most entertaining of the teams to have been promoted, that much I agree with. But they’re also the ones most liable to lose to a team they shouldn’t to at home, even though they score consistently.

That 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United in February is looking more and more costly, and generally, they notch up bad results when they have to force games. The scary thing here is this is maybe their most winnable game left on the schedule, so they’ll be hammer and tongs.

Wolves v West Ham

West Ham and Draw

Over the last six games, West Ham have won twice, drawn three, and scored three goals in the other game. The Hammers have scored in every single one of those games, and the key thing is that their big hitters are in good form.

Lucas Paqueta, Tomas Soucek, Michail Antonio, and Jarrod Bowen all look like they could get into any team in the country outside the title race and we need to be aware of the job that David Moyes is doing.
