Friday 8.00pm: Rotherham v Plymouth
EFL Championship match at the New York Stadium

TV: Sky Sports Football

Match Odds: Draw

Rotherham fans have been awaiting the inevitable since the start of 2024 and Friday night could be where their relegation to League One is confirmed. With six games remaining, the hosts need a mathematical miracle, as their two season stint in the Championship comes to a close. Plymouth find themselves just outside the drop zone with a one point edge over the bottom three. With only pride left to play for, Rotherham ended their 15-game winless streak with a victory over Millwall last weekend, and Plymouth have won just once in 11 in league action.

That bright spark for Rotherham cannot mask their overall struggles, with Plymouth facing a real battle for survival, and they could cancel each other out in this one.

Both teams to score: Yes

The goals have not been flying in for either team of late, with Rotherham’s double against Millwall coming on the back of failing to score in their previous five outings, and Plymouth netting two in six. It’s perfectly likely that neither team manage to score, but given how poor they are defensively, a goal each is a strong possibility.

Rotherham have kept one clean sheet in their last 16 in the Championship with Plymouth managing one in 11.

Under 9.5 corners

Alongside their spot at the foot of the Championship table, Rotherham are also bottom for the amount of corners won so far this season, with an average of 3.3 per game. In their last four games, the Millers have not managed to rack up over three corners in a single match. Plymouth’s season average is slightly better, at 5.2 per game, but they have only managed to win over five corners twice in their last six outings.

Morgan Whittaker to have one or more shots on target

As Plymouth prepare for a crunch few weeks, they need their key players back in form, and striker Morgan Whittaker is showing some positive signs with two goals in his last four matches. With 19 Championship goals so far this season, only Blackburn Rovers Sammie Szmodics (23) and Southampton’s Adam Armstrong (20) have outscored him and he will be a real threat to the hosts struggling defence.
