Liverpool v Brighton
Premier League match at Anfield, Liverpool
TV: Sky Sports Main Event/Sky Sports Premier League, Sunday, 2:00pm

We have two big Premier League games on Sunday and Liverpool v Brighton is a great warm up to the main event. Liverpool will need to keep the pressure on both Manchester City and Arsenal, who meet later, by doing their part of the bargain and securing a win here.

The best way to enjoy a bet on this game has to be with a Bet Builder, so don’t miss our 5/1 Bet Builder on Liverpool vv Brighton.

Liverpool -1

The home side head into this game in great form, despite suffering a number of injuries before the international break. In their previous four games in all competitions they bagged a total of 15 goals. With 65 Premier League goals so far this season, they’re the second highest scoring team, and will be confident in keeping up that form here. They’ve lost just two games in the Premier League this season, that’s fewer than anybody else.

Brighton don’t look the same team that we saw last season. They’re still eighth in the Premier League and generally doing well, but they’ve won just one of their last three and haven’t looked as hard to beat as they were previously. Liverpool should win this by a few goals.

Over 2.5 goals

A look through recent meetings shows we should expect goals. Over 2.5 goals have landed in each of the last four clashes between the two teams, and with Liverpool now seeing some of their star players return, it’s even more likely Jurgen Klopp’s men can bump up the goals in this match.

We’ve seen over 2.5 goals in 71.4% of Brighton’s Premier League games away from home this season, including in their last four, three of which were defeats, alongside a win over a terrible Sheffield United team. We’ve also seen over 2.5 land in 10 of 14 home games for Liverpool in the league this season.

Tariq Lamptey to commit 1 or more fouls

We’ve seen Tariq Lamptey get back into the Brighton lineup of late and he’s showing why he was so highly thought of just a couple of seasons ago. He’s played 13 Premier League games this year, with seven as a starter, and he’s averaging 0.5 fouls per game and has picked up three yellow cards.

He’s going to be tasked with matching up against Liverpool’s Luis Diaz here, which is a far harder task than most opponents he’s faced this season and it means he’ll have to curb his attacking instincts. If he gets caught out when attacking it will increase the chances of him giving up a foul here. Diaz is a tricky customer and he should have the better of Lamptey this Sunday.

Wataru Endo to commit 2 or more fouls

Since arriving at Anfield we’ve seen Wataru Endo grow in importance for Klopp’s team. The Japanese midfielder has only started 12 of his 20 games but now looks to be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

He does a good job in protecting the back four, but that can lead to trouble, and he often gives up fouls. In those 20 games he’s already been booked seven times and has averaged 1.5 fouls per game. Against a Brighton midfield that’s full of energy and can be very dynamic, he’s likely to give up a couple more.

Mohamed Salah to score or assist

To finish off our Bet Builder we’re going to pick a leg featuring Mohamed Salah. Who else was it really going to be? The Egyptian has quietly gone about his business this year and somehow is almost going under the radar. Through 22 Premier League games he’s bagged 15 goals and assisted a further nine.

Even at the age of 31 we’re still seeing Salah as the most important player in the Liverpool attack and he’s just as capable of scoring as he always has been. His past two outings, against Sparta Prague and Man United saw him score two goals and get three assists in just 167 minutes of football. He’s in fine form and should be the main threat again here.
