Netherlands v Scotland
Friendly match at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Amsterdam
TV: Viaplay Sports, Friday, 7:45pm

Netherlands host Scotland on Friday in Amsterdam with both nations preparing for this summer’s Euros. Both teams finished second in their qualifying groups behind France and Spain respectively and will be hoping they can improve on impressive qualifying campaigns. The Scottish fans will enjoy a Friday night in Amsterdam but will Steve Clarke’s team?

Netherlands to Win

Scotland did incredibly well in qualifying. Finishing second to Spain and ahead of Norway in qualifying shows the progression of the team, but they are still inferior to the Netherlands.

The Dutch may have finished second in their group too but they didn’t drop a point to anyone besides France, who are arguably the best team in the world. They won’t be amongst the frontrunners in the betting of the Euros but they’re still a good team and at home should turn over Scotland.

Netherlands Half Time

The Dutch averaged over two goals scored per game during qualification showing their abilities in the final third. We’ve also seen them score in the first half of four of their previous six games.

We will likely see some experimentation here from both managers but the Netherlands have attacking talent across this squad and will threaten Scotland.

Both Teams to Score

The one thing this Scotland team is desperately lacking is a top striker with Adam Armstrong and Che Adams not good enough for a team that want to progress from their group at the Euros. This has given the unfair impression that Scotland aren’t capable of goals.

In reality, this team has scored in 10 of their last 11 games in all competitions and that includes top-level friendlies against the likes of England and France. Steve Clarke has found a way to get this team scoring and although they rely too much on the likes of Scott McTominay, the reality is that they do score regularly.

Cody Gakpo Anytime Goalscorer

We’re also going to back Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo to get on the scoresheet here. We should see him start here and he needs a big game to regain some confidence, having become a scapegoat for his club’s FA Cup loss to Man Utd.

He’s scored just five times in the Premier League for his club, with half of his appearances coming from the bench. That said he’s added another eight goals across the League Cup and Europa League, which shows that his ability is still there.

Scotland to have 3 or more Corners

The Scots will try and play football in this one and won’t resort to parking men behind the ball. That should mean plenty of attacks for Steve Clarke’s men as they go searching for a goal, something that should lead to plenty of corners.

We’ve seen the likes of Ireland and Greece both log three or more corners in recent trips to Amsterdam and with Scotland being better than both of those teams, we should see them hit this mark too.
