While the rest of Europe is getting on with friendlies there is a small group of nations getting ready for massive games that will shape the summers of their fans. Wales face Finland at home, with the victor playing either Poland or Estonia five days later. This is set to be a massive game for Rob Page’s men but will they be ready?

Wales to Win

After the World Cup in Qatar it looked like a rebuild for Wales, with Gareth Bale retired and Aaron Ramsey soldiering on, but looking a shadow of his former self. However, it’s been a genuine surprise how well Rob Page has gotten his team playing since that early exit.

This is a team that finished third in a group behind both Turkey and Croatia, both good sides, with Wales actually beating and drawing with Croatia in their two games and putting in a good display against Turkey too. Meanwhile, Finland were third behind Denmark and Slovenia and have a generally poor team, with only a select few players such as Bayer Leverkusen’s Lukas Hradecky at top clubs. Wales should win this with home advantage.

Kieffer Moore to Score

January saw Kieffer Moore get a move away from Bournemouth, where he was playing second fiddle to Dominic Solanke, to Championship side Ipswich, who are contending for promotion. Since that move he’s been in electric form, scoring six goals in 10 league games.

It’s a fantastic record and in truth, he’s probably found his level, a very good Championship striker but not an elite Premier League one. However, Finland aren’t a top-tier team either and with Moore’s confidence and his physical presence, he’ll fancy his chances of scoring.

Kieffer Moore to have 2 or more Shots on Target

As well as backing 31-year-old Moore to score, we’re also going to back him to get two or more shots on target. He’s averaging 3.3 shots per game in the Championship and has become a key cog in Ipswich’s team this campaign.

He’s in arguably the best form of his career, at a club who are flying high and he’s going to be brimming with confidence. All that against a team who conceded 9.7 shots per game in their qualifying group and who will be on the back foot for large parts of this game.

Harry Wilson to have 1 or more Shots on Target

Fulham’s Harry Wilson isn’t always a starter for his club, coming from the bench in 13 of his 27 Premier League games this season, but he’s always looking to take up dangerous positions in attack. Despite nearly half of his appearances coming from the bench, he’s averaging 2.3 shots per game and for Wales in the group stages, he was averaging 2.6.

He’s at his best coming in from the right-hand side of the attack but he’s equally as good moving in from the left or playing in behind Kieffer Moore. With Moore’s ability to hold up play, it’s only going to allow the likes of Wilson and Brennan Johnson to find pockets of space to get shots away. With all of that in mind, we should see Wilson get a shot on target here.

Teemu Pukki to have 1 or more Shots on Target

No Premier League fan would have forgotten former Norwich striker Teemu Pukki, who is still Finland’s best attacking option even at 33-year-old. He’s now playing at Minnesota United in the MLS but that hasn’t stopped his goal-getting, with 12 goals in 18 games since arriving in 2023.

Pukki might be aging but he’s still a key player for his country and the man who they’ll be looking to feed around the box. He’s almost certain to get a shot on target here and given the importance of this game, he should have more than the 1.7 shots he’s averaged in the group stage games.
