Celtic to Win
Celtic hit their stride in midweek against Dundee, and the Hoops are expected to continue that form against Hearts, who have endured a big week and have not played their best football.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have struggled to produce their best level lately but regained their pomp as they demolished Dundee 7-1 at home. It was the type of display that could get their season going once again while the manner of their success also allowed them a valuable breather in a hectic week.
Hearts, meanwhile, seem to have had the wind taken out of them by last weekend’s 5-0 capitulation against Rangers. Although they held rivals Hibs 1-1 in a midweek derby, their performance was not close to their best level, which is exactly what will be required against the champions.
Both previous league meetings between these sides have been won by the travelling team, and that trend should continue.
Adam Idah to Score
When Idah started the midweek encounter against Dundee, it was probably with an eye on keeping Kyogo Furuhashi fresh for this match. The Ireland international, though, scored twice and will be hard to overlook in the starting XI given the respective form of the two players.
A January arrival from Norwich, Idah has five goals in five league matches and on his last visit to Edinburgh bagged a decisive double from the penalty spot to steer his side to victory over Hibs.
At the current odds to score anytime, he looks good value to continue his promising start to life in Glasgow.
Over 2.5 Goals
After scoring seven in midweek, Celtic’s tails should be up offensively coming into this game. That is a worrying sign for Hearts given that the Hoops are top scorers in the league with 68 goals in 28 matches.
Hearts, meanwhile, will fancy their chances of finding the net against a Celtic outfit that has struggled to keep clean sheets lately. Rodgers’ side have conceded exactly one goal in each of their five February league fixtures. Lawrence Shankland has scored in both previous meetings with the Glasgow side this season, after all.
Six of the last nine between these teams have produced at least three goals, while all of those matches saw at least two goals.
Lawrence Shankland to have 1 or more Shots on Target
Shankland has been the deadliest striker in the Scottish Premiership this season, carrying Hearts with his 19 goals. He has netted in both previous encounters against Celtic and he will be the player who is likeliest to pose them problems in Sunday’s match.
There have only been three league matches this season in which he has not mustered at least one effort on target. He is on a run of 14 successive games in which he has had at least one shot on target, managing multiple in five of those fixtures.
Odds of 1.5 on him simply testing Joe Hart on one occasion are extremely generous.
Alistair Johnston to Commit 2 or more Fouls
Celtic’s right back Johnston has not had it easy in previous matches against Hearts this season, with the Canada international committing five fouls over the course of those encounters, including three when Celtic last visited Tynecastle.
