Burkina Faso v Mauritania
Group D game at Stade de Bouak, Bouake, 2pm
TV: Sky Sports Football & Main Event
Best Bet: Burkina Faso to Win
Burkina Faso come into their opening Group D match in the superior form as the odds suggest. The Stallions have won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five while lowly Mauritania, ranked 105th in the current FIFA rankings have won just one of their last five, drawing two and losing two. To make matters worse, they’ve only scored a single goal over their last four games. We’re backing Burkina Faso to Win.
Long Shot: Burkina Faso to Win 2-0
Mauritania’s lack of firepower of lack means we’re unlikely to see them scoring and really they’ll be hoping to grab a win against Angola in their next game and look to sneak in as a high-ranking third-placed team. Burkina Faso have scored nine over their last five so we reckon a 2-0 scoreline looks like a good shout.
Tunisia v Namibia
Group E game at the Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly, Korhogo, 5pm
TV: Sky Sports Football & Main Event
Best Bet: Tunisia to Win 1-0, 2-0, or 3-0
Ranked 28th in the world, Tunisia will be confident of going far in the tournament and will be eager to start off by chalking three points on the board. They’ve won three of their last four games, scoring seven while conceding zero.
Namibia have won just one of their last five, a 0-2 away win over Sao Tome e Principe, a team ranked 198th in the world, that’s from 211 teams, and failed to score in any of their other four most recent fixtures. Tunisia should walk this.
Long Shot: Youssef Msakni First Goalscorer
Youssef Msakni has scored three goals over Tunisia’s last four games and will be Tunisia’s main goal-scoring threat, along with Taha Khenissi. Khenissi’s struggling for goal of late though and with Msakni also on freekicks and penalties there’s a decent chance he’ll open the scoring.
Mali v South Africa
Group E game at the Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly, Korhogo, 8pm
TV: Sky Sports Football & Main Event
Best Bet: Both Teams to Score
With 51st in the world going up at 66th we should expect a close game. However, Mali are in the better form of the pair, winning six of their last seven, drawing the other one. However, they’ve conceded in four of their last five, where we’ve seen Both Teams to Score landing.
South Africa’s results of one win, three draws and one loss won’t be filling their supporters with confidence but they’ve scored recently against Ivory Coast and Congo and with Mali seemingly not all that bothered about defensive play, Both Teams to Score is the pick here.
Long Shot: Mali to Win 3-1
We can’t really argue with Mali’s better form. In scoring 14 goals over their last five coming into the AFCON, we have to give them the nod. They’ve got the firepower to bag the three points here and a 3-1 scoreline is definitely worth a punt.
