Long Shot: Crysencio Summerville to score first and Leeds to win
We’ve got a big slate of EFL action this Friday and Sky will be televising two of those games. We have third place Southampton hosting managerless Plymouth Argyle as well as West Brom vs Leeds, a meeting between the Championship’s fourth and fifth placed teams.
Southampton v Plymouth Argyle
Friday, 6pm, Sky Sports Football
Best Bet: Over 3.5 goals
This is a game that absolutely screams goals. There have been Over 3.5 goals in half of Southampton’s games at St Mary’s this season, including their last two which have seen them score a combined nine goals against Blackburn and Swansea.
Plymouth Argyle are one of the Championship’s most entertaining teams, despite being in the bottom half and their games nearly always equal goals. In their past five games home and away we’ve seen Over 3.5 goals on four occasions, with the only exception being a defensive 10-man performance against QPR. We have two very good attacking teams here and there’s bound to be goals.
Long Shot: Plymouth Argyle to win, Both Teams to Score and Morgan Whittaker to score
Look, Southampton should win this, there’s a reason that they are 2/7 favourites. That said I think it won’t be anywhere near as clear cut as that. This Argyle team are far better than their league position indicates and despite not picking up an away win all season they’ve gone toe-to-toe with teams throughout the year. They were unlucky away to Ipswich with some questionable refereeing, looked good against Leicester until a terrible 10-minute spell and nearly got back into the game at Leeds despite a poor first half that saw them 2-0 down.
If, and it’s a big if, Argyle win this then it’s going to be Morgan Whittaker who gets them there with his goals. He’s scored 12 goals already this season from wide right and will cause Southampton problems. I also think Southampton will score, meaning anything Argyle win would need to see them scoring multiple goals.

West Brom v Leeds
Friday, 8:15pm, Sky Sports Football
Best Bet: Leeds to win
The last week has summed Leeds United’s season up. They thrashed Ipswich 4-0 to get fans dreaming of hitting the automatic promotion spots and then followed it by losing 2-1 to Preston.
They come into this fourth in the Championship table, 14 points off Leicester in top spot and six points clear of fifth place and their opposition in this game in West Brom. When Leeds are at their best they are, in my opinion, the best team in the division. The issue is that they aren’t consistent.
The Baggies are a good team but fifth is their ceiling, there’s at least four teams who are better than them in the Championship and I worry that their defence will get shredded by the pace in Leeds’ frontline. We’re getting over even money on Leeds here and I think that’s a price worth taking.
Long Shot: Crysencio Summerville to score first and Leeds to win
What makes Leeds so dangerous is the speed that they have in attacking positions. Crysencio Summerville and Dan James can tear teams to shreds and then they can bring on Wilfried Gnonto from the bench. That speed combined with the talents of Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter is scary.
I’m very confident in Leeds winning this and if they do win then I think Crysencio Summerville will be one of the key figures in them getting the three points. He’s scored in two of the team’s past three games and has a great chance at opening the scoring at the Hawthorns. At 10/1 we’re getting a big price on him scoring first and Leeds winning, especially when you consider that he also takles the team’s penalties.
