We’re at the point of the Christmas break now where days are meaningless and if not for the sun, we’d consider ourselves in existential comas.

For added context, today isn’t close enough to the New Year where you’ve to think about going back to work, it’s not far enough removed from Christmas Day that can’t still use the bread and butter bought in and it’s right around the time where the Premier League games kind of all merge into one.

These 7.30pm kickoffs don’t seem that appealing on a Wednesday night, but at this point of the year, you’re likely to wake up from your nap that started shortly after midday and spot it on the box. The real joy of the season.

Brentford are having a rough time of it at the moment.

Well, I guess you could suggest Brentford are always kind of having a rough time of it. They’re out there in west London where nobody pays attention. Their ground looks like a Wendy House and they’re the only Premier League outfit I’ve ever heard of that sound more like a county than a football club.

Still, at least their game with Man City was off while Pep’s gang completed THE GREATEST STORY IN FOOTBALL HISTORY™.

I often think the Christmas period magnifies any ongoing form or struggles you bring into it – and for Brentford’s sake, that couldn’t be much worse. They were beaten by the worst side in the country and managed to concede a 97th-minute winner to Aston Villa.

Wolves only really seem to play well against the better footballing sides, too. They beat Burnley, ran Arsenal close, beat Spurs and drew with Newcastle while getting thumped by West Ham, Sheffield United and Fulham.

Chelsea naturally don’t get categorised because they’re not a footballing side, but a travelling circus capable of wowing in both good and bad ways simultaneously. So, what does all this tell us? A score draw – dead right.

Chelsea to Win

You might call me a sucker for suggesting value here, but I think we’re at the stage where we can say that Chelsea are starting to figure it out at home. Yes their away form has been patchy but the blueprint is now there for their approach in Stamford Bridge.

A 4-4 draw with City was followed successive home victories in the Premier League and while their adventures are more unpredictable than Bilbo Baggins’ trips to the Misty Mountain, they’re beginning to become somewhat stable under Poch.

Chelsea toy with the idea that they’re better without him, but it just doesn’t transpire. He’s quirky – that much we can admit, but his understanding with Raheem Sterling is key to them in forward areas.

Armando Broja might seem like a novel idea, but apart from trying to force feed the narrative that Chelsea want to play anyone who’s at the club longer than eighteen months, they’ll return to status quo and be rewarded.

Nicolas Jackson to Be Booked

I said he was quirky. Here is a list of Premier League players who have picked up more bookings than the striker at time of writing: Joao Palhinha.
