Celtic -1

Celtic travel to face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday seeking revenge after losing at this venue in the League Cup back in August.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have dominated the Scottish Premiership this season, winning 13 of their 16 matches to date, and should be heavily favoured to win this encounter by a comfortable margin.

While Killie’s strong home record should be taken into account – Derek McInnes’ side have lost only against Ross County and Hearts in front of their supporters this season – Celtic have been increasingly dominant domestically in recent weeks. Since beating these opponents 3-1 in October, they have gone on a run of winning six of their last nine by multiple goals.

Celtic come into this match off the back of a 4-1 win over Hibs, while the midweek action should also favour them given they have squad depth that their rivals can only dream of. Even with a fresh worry over centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers, who was taken off in midweek with a tight hamstring, they should be favoured to get a comfortable victory.

Over 2.5 Goals

Kilmarnock would ideally like to keep this game tight, but Celtic’s intent will be that they are not allowed to do so.

Killie’s home fixtures this season have averaged exactly 2 goals in the league – but the Hoops are certainly not your average Premiership opponent.

Celtic have scored at least three times themselves in four of their last five Premiership games, while they alone have netted at least twice in their last six league meetings with their Ayrshire rivals.

Four of the last five league meetings between these teams have produced at least 2.5 goals – 18 to Celtic and 2 to Kilmarnock – and this match could continue that trend.

Matt O’Riley to Score

Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi is the favourite to score anytime, but after Oh Hyeon-Gyu scored a double in midweek, there must be some doubt that he will even start this fixture.

Instead, Matt O’Riley remains Celtic’s man in form and is remarkably good value to find the net in this game. The Denmark international midfielder has eight Premiership goals this season, scored across eight different matches and is particularly appealing because he plays virtually every minute.

Had Celtic had anything to play for in their midweek Champions League match, he might have been rested, but with Rangers hot on their tails, they should be expected to attack this match at full throttle. That means starting a man who has netted in each of the last two Premiership games.

Celtic to Have 6 or More Shots on Target

Celtic have the highest average number of shots on target in the Scottish Premiership, with the Hoops nearly at 8.5 per game. That is well in advance of any other club in the league, with Rangers coming next on 6.9.

In their midweek encounter against Hibs, the Parkhead side had 12 efforts on goal and in their previous two away matches they have mustered seven against St Johnstone and an astonishing 16 against a Ross County side that played much of the game with 10 men.

They have managed at least six shots on target in 10 of their last 12 league matches, including 12 in their last meeting with Killie, so this looks like a strong bet.

Liam Scales to Have 1 or More Shots

Celtic centre-back Liam Scales has been posing a surprisingly large threat in recent matches. In the last five Premiership outings, the Irishman has managed at least one shot on four occasions.

He has been a significant threat in recent away matches too, having two efforts on goal against St Johnstone, and can repeat the feat at least once at Rugby Park.

It’s certainly worth having Scales at any kind of effort on goal in this match. For longer odds, he could be worth adding to have at least 2 or more shots given his recent numbers.
