Man City v Liverpool
Saturday, 12:30pm
TV: TNT Sports 1
So many people will have thought that City would run away with the league this season, with Arsenal being the closest challengers, but Liverpool have had a real. resurgence.
The new signings have settled in well and the player who were three last year have improved.
There was so much talk this time last year of Klopp and his seven-year cycle – it’s amazing how quickly that gets drowned out by performances.
Naturally, teams come to a stage where they have to evolve. Alex Ferguson was probably the best we’ve ever seen at knowing when it was time to move on and start a new cycle.
That’s what we’ve seen at Liverpool.
Last year feels like a transitional period and now they’re getting back to that high level again.
The team was superhuman at times in those seasons where they were battling with City, I don’t think they’re back at that level yet, but they look like they can challenge again.
Of course, City still are favourites for this game despite a few vulnerabilities this season. They’ve shown already how they can bounce back from a poor result and can blow any team away on their day.
Liverpool to Win
Also, Liverpool haven’t won at the Etihad that often in recent times – but there’s always a time to break that!
It might be the optimist in me, but sometimes I think it suits Liverpool when teams come onto them as they can use the pace of Diaz and Salah, and I believe Liverpool can upset the odds and edge it on Saturday.
Both Teams to Score – Yes
There should be goals either way too, so Both Teams to Score makes a lot of sense.
If Liverpool pull it off it’ll be down to the firepower they have now.
Nunez is a confidence player and once he gets one he gets more, while Luis Diaz is like a £100m signing the way he’s come back from injury. He brings so much energy to the side.
Mo Salah 1+ Shots on Target
And then there’s Mo Salah.
He gets overlooked sometimes when people talk about the very best players in the world because he’s so efficient.
You see Messi going and beating four or five players – Mo Salah can do that too! And his numbers match up against anyone.
He’s a huge threat against City and should have at least a shot on target.
Over 5.5 Cards
This is the biggest game of the weekend and has become the modern day United versus Arsenal when they were the two best teams.
It’s not quite a fiery as those usually but you would expect one of these teams to win win the league most seasons recently. And there is definitely a bit of needle in the rivalry.
We could see some of that on the pitch on Saturday so we’ll go for Over 5.5 cards.
Rodri to Commit 1+ Fouls
And Rodri is always likely to be involved in any kind of midfield tussle.
He should be good for at least a foul in this.
