Kieran Trippier to commit 1 or more fouls

Kieran Trippier’s arrival at Newcastle is arguably the smartest transfer they’ve made since the arrival of the new ownership. He’s added leadership, set piece threat and a calm head that holds his defence together.

He’s averaged 1 foul per game so far this season in both the Premier League and Champions League and we’re going to bet on him to commit at least one here against PSG. This is less about Trippier and more about the man he’ll be lining up against on PSG’s left flank – a certain Kylian Mbappe.

In their opening Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund he got fouled four times and with his direct running and pace, it’s easy to see Trippier being forced him to bring him down.

Sandro Tonali to commit 1 or more fouls

We’re also going to back another Newcastle player to commit at least one foul in this game. That man is Sandro Tonali. In his lone Champions League performance this season away at former club AC Milan  he committed four fouls and he’s been averaging one per game in the Premier League too.

He’s going to have a tough matchup against Vitinha and Warren Zaire-Emery in midfield and will also have to deal with helping his defence against the attacking pace of the wide forwards Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele. It’s going to be a difficult ask and I’m expecting him to give up at least one foul.

Anthony Gordon to be shown a card

Yellow cards and Anthony Gordon, name a better combo. He’s already picked up five in the Premier League this season and can be very rash. He’s been exceptional on the left wing this season for Newcastle but he almost seems to be at his best when he’s playing on the edge.

He uses his anger and energy to great effect when it comes to how he attacks players but it has resulted in him committing a lot of challenges, as well as a habit of running his mouth at officials. This is Newcastle’s first Champions League game under the floodlights of St James’ Park in years and I think the atmosphere of the big occasion could be enough to get him too fired up. Not only that but if he has to track back and defend against the pace of Dembele then it’s even more likely we see him get a card.

    Kylian Mbappe anytime goalscorer

You’ve probably noticed that I’ve avoided picking a winner for this match, and in truth it’s too hard to do so. There’s good reasons you can make for either team winning this game but it’s very hard to not see PSG get at least one, most notably their start player Mbapppe.

If you have any interest in this sport, let alone this game, you already know why we’d be considering the Frenchman to score but it’s worth noting that he’s in incredible form. He’s bagged seven goals in six Ligue 1 games this season and scored in the club’s only Champions League game of the season too. Against Dortmund he had five shots and even in those six Ligue 1 games he’s averaged 4.3 shots per game. He’s an elite goalscorer and will fancy his chances here, even against a good defence.

Achraf Hakimi to have 1 or more shots on target

Who do you think has the highest average of shots per game in the PSG squad after Mbappe? I imagine you’d think Goncalo Ramos or Dembele, two great attacking players, but you’re wrong, it’s PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi.

Across seven Ligue 1 games he’s scored twice and averaged 2.4 shots per game. He’s a vital part of the PSG attack and with defences focused on the movement of Mbappe, Ramos and Dembele, it opens up space for Hakimi to get in good scoring positions. The odds don’t really reflect how he’s performed this season so far and so we’re going to add him into this Bet Builder.
