Champions League Group F St James’ Park, 8pm TV: TNT Sports
This is being called the Middle East Derby. This is what Newcastle fans have been waiting for for so many years and what a group they’ve found themselves in. Matchday one away to away to AC Milan at the San Siro was quite difficult for them but they got through it with a draw.
Newcastle are unbeaten now in five games in all competitions and they had a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Burnley at the weekend.
PSG obviously still have Kylian Mbappe but Leo Messi is gone, Neymar is gone too. Of course they’re still a big team but they’re currently sitting fifth in Ligue 1. They’ve played seven, won three, drawn three and lost one. All is not good in the PSG camp and they only drew 0-0 with Clermont at the weekend.
They did however dispatch Dortmund in their opening Champions League game but they’re not in great form of late so I’m backing Newcastle to Win here.
Alexander Isak is in good form for Newcastle and he scored at the weekend. He’s also their penalty taker and in Europe, the referees give more spot kicks than they do in the Premier League. Isak to Score Anytime is a smart pick.
I’m also sweet on Bruno Guimaraes to Have 1 or More Shots on Target. The Brazilian, who is averaging a shot per game under Eddie Howe, will get an opportunity to land one on target.
Finally, I like Keiran Trippier to be Shown a Card. Why, you may ask? Because he’s up against Kylian Mbappe. There’s not much else to be said. Whoever is marking Mbappe is in for a long night.
Champions League Group G Red Bull Arena, 8pm TV: TNT Sports
This RB Leipzig side have been playing well this season. They’re currently sitting fifth in the Bundesliga but there are some decent teams above them who are having a good time of it, Dortmund and Bayern Munich and Xabi Alonso’s team Bayer Leverkusen are top of the league. They’ve played six games so far, have won four, drawn one and lost one so they’re going quite well.
Manchester City are having a bit of a tough time, even to say that doesn’t seem to sit well. They’ve lost both of their previous games which is quite astonishing. The loss at the weekend away to Wolves, for all their chances and possession it just wasn’t their day.
They won their first Champions League game 3-1, although I expected to see a few more goals in that. Leipzig were winning 2-0 against Bayern Munich at the weekend but the Bavarians recovered and salvaged a draw. In matchday one they won away to Switzerland’s Young Boys so they’re in a good place but I’m expecting Pep Guardiola’s to come out fighting here and I expect Man City to Win. However, as Leipzig have looked good this season I’ll add in Both Teams to Score.
I’m also backing Erling Haaland to Score Anytime. City’s goal machine didn’t score against Wolves and he only had one shot in the game. He’ll be desperate to respond and start a new goalscoring streak.
