Aberdeen v Celtic
Pittodrie, Sunday 12pm
TV: Sky Sports Main Event/Football

Celtic to Win

Brendan Rodgers kicked off his second spell as Celtic manager with a 4-2 victory over Ross County on the opening weekend of the 2023/24 Scottish Premiership season. Aberdeen, meanwhile, ground out a goalless draw with Livingston.

Celtic, seeking a third consecutive league title, have a superb record against Aberdeen, who were best of the rest behind the Old Firm last term. The Bhoys have come out on top in 17 of their last 20 meetings with the Dons in all competitions and won on their last three visits to Pittodrie – a record that should be extended on Sunday with a Celtic Win.

Both Teams To Score – Yes

Aberdeen have not scored in their last four meetings with Celtic so they are due a goal, although the key reason for this selection is that Brendan Rodgers’ side look like they could be vulnerable at the back.

Alistair Johnston is injured so second-choice right-back Anthony Ralston starts again, while Carl Starfelt’s departure means new recruit Maik Nawrocki will continue to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers, who only managed 45 minutes in pre-season, at the heart of defence.

Ross County managed to breach this defence on two occasions and you would imagine this is a perfect opportunity for Aberdeen to finally net against Celtic. It’s Both Teams To Score next.

Kyogo Furuhashi to Score Anytime

Kyogo Furuhashi is, quite simply, the best striker in the Scottish Premiership. The Japanese hotshot won last season’s Golden Boot with 27 goals in 36 league appearances and is already up and running for the new campaign after bagging in the first half of last weekend’s opener against Ross County.

He also has a decent record against Aberdeen, with three goals in six appearances, including a brace in last term’s final day thrashing of the Dons. Kyogo Furuhashi to Score Anytime looks a great bet.

Matt O’Riley Anytime Assist

Matt O’Riley is one of the most creative outlets at Brendan Rodgers’ disposal and the 22-year-old contributed a goal and an assist in Celtic’s first match of the season.

The midfielder laid on 11 goals for his team-mates in 33 league appearances in 2022/23 and he should be able to work his magic with an Assist Anytime as the visitors are likely to have plenty of time on the ball.

David Turnbull to Have 1 or More Shots on Target

David Turnbull got the nod ahead of Reo Hatate in Celtic’s engine room against Ross County and a two-goal display means he should keep his place.

The 24-year-old will have licence to get forward and contribute in the attacking third of the pitch, with the Bhoys likely to dominate possession. He’s also seems to be the designated penalty taker after netting from the spot last weekend. We’ll sign off with David Turnbull to Have 1 or More Shots on Target.
