Sunday, 5:30pm: Arsenal v Brighton
Premier League
TV: Sky Sports Premier League/Main Event
The atmosphere at the Emirates could be electric. Arsenal might kick off against Brighton with three games to play and a chance to go top of the Premier League. All they’ll need is for Everton to take something from Manchester City earlier on Sunday.
Ah. Oh well. It was nice while it lasted, wasn’t it Gooners? Even though they’ll almost certainly be four points adrift of the leaders, all Mikel Arteta’s side can do is try to win this game and go from there.
But they’re coming up against a Brighton team with eyes on European qualification for the first time in their history. In a funny way, there may actually be more at stake for them than the home side here.
Arsenal to Win
The Seagulls have a decent record at the Emirates, having won three and drawn one of their last five visits in all competitions. Having tasted victory at Chelsea and Manchester United and drawing at Liverpool in 2022/23, a game at Arsenal won’t frighten them.
Perhaps it should as the Gunners have been excellent at home this season. Granted, Southampton recently took a point home from the red half of north London but 14 other sides left with nothing.
Arsenal also won 4-2 at the Amex Stadium earlier this season. With a long season looking like it is starting to catch up with Brighton – hello, 5-1 loss to Everton – the home side can bank another three points towards their now futile title challenge.
Over 2.5 Goals
We should be treated to a few goals here, simply because there almost always is when the Gunners play at home. There have been at least four goals in 13 of their 17 league matches at the Emirates this term, thanks in part to their near pathological inability to keep clean sheets.
As three of the four exceptions to the Over 3.5 goal pay outs occurred against the teams directly behind Brighton in the table at the start of the weekend (Aston Villa, Brentford and Brighton), we’ll set our sights a little lower, at Over 2.5 goals.
Don’t be surprised if this ends 6-4 (game, first set Arsenal) or something mad like that though.

Kaoru Mitoma to Score or be Shown a Card
We can expect an entertaining game because Brighton are likely to score. Their left winger Kaoru Mitoma should be in the thick of the action in more ways than one. For starters, he will be up against the weaker side of Arsenal’s defence. The Japanese international has amassed 2.6 expected goals in his last seven Premier League appearances without scoring, so is certainly due to score soon.
Mitoma may be due a booking too, as only two players have committed more fouls in the Premier League without receiving a yellow card this season. Add those two facts together and selecting him in the To Score Or To Be Shown A Card market looks beyond sensible.
Over 3.5 Cards
Across his career, match referee Andy Madley has not been one of the division’s most whistle-happy refs. However, he’s having his most card-heavy campaign to date in this season. The same may be true, in a sense, for Arsenal and Brighton. While far from the most frequently booked sides, they are the leading two in the Premier League for seeing opposition players receive yellow cards. There have been at least six in the previous two meetings so we should be okay for Over 3.5 Cards on Sunday afternoon.
Over 9.5 Corners
As well as cards, these clubs bring corners out of each other too. When you attack at pace with tricky wide players, clearances and deflections behind the goal are inevitable. Their last four league clashes have all hit double figures, with an average of 12.8 corners in those games. By that mark, adding Over 9.5 Corners to round off our Bet Builder looks safe. Now, we just need Everton to shock the world against City and we’re good to go.
