Manchester United have suffered late setbacks in back-to-back away games and will be desperate to bounce back at the City Ground to reignite their season. Crystal Palace’s late equaliser and Arsenal’s late winner has seen United drop crucial points and lose significant ground in a potential title race but they have an excellent chance of winning silverware in the League Cup this season. They comfortably beat Nottingham Forest in their first game after the World Cup break, but their opponents have improved significantly since that defeat.
Steve Cooper’s side are undefeated in the league since that defeat at Old Trafford, taking eight points from four games to put some daylight between themselves and the relegation zone. Forest’s home form has been crucial this season and could play a factor on Wednesday. Cooper’s side are unbeaten in their last eight home games in all competitions and stand a good chance of keeping this tie alive ahead of next week’s second leg at Old Trafford.
United should back themselves to do the job at home and shouldn’t be too unhappy with a draw.
Marcus Rashford to Score Anytime
With United refusing to bring in a top-quality centre forward in January, their season seems to depend on the form of Marcus Rashford. Rashford has been sensational since returning from the World Cup, scoring eight goals in eight games. He has scored in every round of the League Cup this season, bagging four goals in three games in the competition to date. He opened the scoring against Forest just after Christmas and there is nothing to suggest that he can’t cause them problems again on Wednesday.

Nottingham Forest boast the lowest corner average in the Premier League, recording an average of just three corners per game. They have managed to better that average on just two occasions in their last seven games, once against Bournemouth and once against Wednesday night’s opponents at Old Trafford, when they won nine corners.
United have conceded an average of 5.2 corners per game this season – more than the league average – and recently conceded 12 against Arsenal. With a vocal home support behind them, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Forest put United under pressure and win at least four corners on Wednesday night.
Over 3.5 Cards
United boast one of the worst disciplinary records in the Premier League this season. Erik Ten Hag’s side reached the 50-card landmark during Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal and slipped to 16th in the league’s disciplinary table. Only Fulham have accumulated more cards than United this season and it stands to reason that they will come close to matching their average of 2.5 cards per game on Wednesday night.
Forest, on the other hand, have hardly fared much better, collecting 42 cards in 20 league games so far this season. Michael Oliver, who will officiate Wednesday’s game, has brandished an average of 3.96 cards in the games he has officiated this season and there is no reason to think he won’t at least match that average on Wednesday.
