Chelsea v Man United, Saturday, 5:30pm
Live on Sky Sports Main Event
I don’t think the Ronaldo situation will affect the players much. It won’t put any extra pressure on them. It’s for the club and the manager to sort.
I can’t say Erik Ten Hag has handled the whole Ronaldo situation well – the decision by the club to keep him if the manager wasn’t going to play him was only going to end in tears – but I also understand, as a manager, he’s making his mark on the club now and has to take action.
You could compare it to Arteta with Aubameyang last season. He dealt with that well, stuck to his guns and now Arsenal are seeing the benefits.
With Ronaldo, after the summer, you knew every time he was left out of the team there’d be loads of questions, and if they lost games people will say he should be back in the team. No team needs that.
Match Odds: Chelsea to Win
But they were fantastic against Spurs and it’s clear the players are backing the manager. United will be full of confidence after that and look strong at the moment.
However, this game’s at home for Chelsea, and they’re still unbeaten under Graham Potter, and I can see them edging a close game. I think there’ll be goals and but see Chelsea getting the better of it.
To Score or Assist: Raheem Sterling
Reece James will be a big loss for them – he gives them so much and was a shoo-in for the World Cup. He’s been Chelsea’s best player this season in my view.
On the positive side, Mason Mount was great last weekend, his two goals were fantastic. He’s got so much quality – he’s technically gifted, works really hard, and can play in so many systems. It’s no wonder managers love him.
But Raheem Sterling is their best option for a goal in my view on Saturday. He can score himself or set up one of his teammates so I’d look at him as the biggest threat to United.
To Score or be Booked: Bruno Fernandes
For United, Bruno Fernandes took his goal well in midweek and was hugely important for them in previous seasons when he came into the team.
They’ll be delighted to see him back in form and I can see him being heavily involved in this – either as a scorer or possibly getting in the ref’s notebook if things aren’t going their way.
To Have 1+ Shots on Target: Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford did everything but score against Spurs. Lloris was on top form and made some great saves.
I could see him having a few more efforts on target on Saturday and he’ll hope Chelsea’s keeper isn’t quite as difficult to beat.
