I don’t truly believe Leicester’s misfortunes will continue. They’re one of the best transition teams in the league, and while they’re facing the side whose entire identity over the last few years has been exactly that, they possess more scope to outscore them.
Boubakary Soumare still seems quite raw, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall doesn’t mesh quite as well with Youri Tielemans as they’d perhaps have hoped yet. But, Brend Rodgers remains one of the best coaches of attacking patterns in the league. And in what will essentially be a game of who can thrive without primary possession, I see some light at the end of the tunnel for the superior XI.
Over 2.5 Goals
Eight of Leicester’s nine Premier League games this season have gone over. And while that can be a bit of a red herring in betting terms as averages typically revert to mean, it’s a different situation with Leicester.
Their midfield, which is by far their most costly unit, is not setup to sit in. They’d be even worse. Systematically pieced together to play on the break, Leicester can’t change their approach until at least January.
Jamie Vardy has been an incredible servant to both football and popular courtroom-based pop culture/drama over the last number of years, but he’s slightly overshadowed Leicester’s ability to score goals from shots taken at an angle wider than fifteen degrees from the near post. Patson Daka is a different kind of striker but equally as talented, and while Vardy himself is clearly suffering from the sheer embarrassment of his personal dealings, Daka is beginning to fire in the role of a more traditional striker.
His link-up with James Maddison has been promising and is the most likely source of shots on goal here.
Cheick Doucoure to Be Shown a Card
Cheick Doucoure is great at breaking up play – he just generally does it by being cynical and allowing a sluggish Palace backline to regroup. A bit like his manager perhaps? He’s been booked in three of his eight games this season and is clearly the designate chopper here amongst the Palace players.
Given the speed at which Leicester break into space, I’d make him a touch shorter than advertised to pick up a booking here.
