Sunday 7:45pm: Wales v Poland
TV: S4C, Premier Sports 1 and S4C online

The Draw

Wales somehow find themselves in with a chance of avoiding relegation from the top tier of the Nations League despite picking up one point from their five games to date. Robert Page’s side are three points behind Poland in Group D and will secure their top tier status with victory in Cardiff on Sunday.

The Welsh have lost four times so far in this Nations League campaign, with all four of those defeats coming via one-goal deficits. They were incredibly unfortunate to lose home and away to the Netherlands, equalising in additional time on both occasions only to concede moments later on both occasions.

Meanwhile, they led for large parts in their group opener in Poland, only to concede twice in the last 20 minutes. Poland, on the other hand, have blown hot and cold in their Nations League campaign, impressively drawing away to the Netherlands while also being blown away by Belgium.

They have won just one of their five games to date – that opener against Wales when their opponents had more than one eye on a World Cup play-off four days later.

Wales have arguably been better than Poland in the Nations League and are somewhat unfortunate to find themselves bottom, however, their inability to turn performances into results has proved costly and it could cost them again on Sunday with The Draw at full time.

    Both teams to score

Wales’s chief undoing has been their inability to keep clean sheets. Page’s side have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their five games in Group D of the Nations League and have managed just one in their last 10 games. Poland, meanwhile, have likewise had problems keeping it tight at the back.

They are also yet to keep a clean sheet in the Nations League and have managed just one in their last nine games. Ironically, both Wales and Poland managed to keep a clean sheet when it mattered most – in the final of their respective World Cup play-off paths.  However, their respective Nations League form points to goals on Sunday and for Both Teams to Score.

    Brennan Johnson to score anytime

Brennan Johnson’s debut Premier League season has not been a happy one so far thanks to a fairly disastrous start from Nottingham Forest. However, the young Welsh star has still looked bright, scoring two goals and providing plenty of energy in attack.

He has already found the back of the net twice in this Nations League campaign, hitting a late equaliser against Belgium and then scoring in Rotterdam in back-to-back games in June. Johnson is good value to Score Anytime against Poland on Sunday.

    Robert Lewandowski to score anytime

Robert Lewandowski has enjoyed a brilliant start to life in Barcelona, scoring an eye-catching 11 goals in his first seven appearances. The Polish forward has been less prolific in the Nations League this season, scoring just once in four appearances, with that goal coming in a 6-1 defeat to Belgium.

Lewandowski, however, has flourished against some of Spain’s weaker defences and will cause plenty of problems for a Welsh defence that is relatively weak when compared to the Netherlands and Belgium. Wales have conceded at a rate of two per game in the Nations League and it would be surprising if Poland’s talisman failed to take advantage of such a porous defensive record. Lewandowski to Score Anytime rounds us off.
