Thursday 8pm: Leicester v Manchester United
TV: BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultimate

Manchester United to win

It is difficult to sum up just how bad Leicester’s start to the season has been. The Foxes are currently propping up the Premier League table with one win in their opening four games, losing their last three games on the bounce.

Granted, two of their three defeats were at Arsenal and Chelsea, but the manner of defeats will be of concern to Brendan Rodgers. Arsenal found it all too easy to carve their way through the Leicester defence, scoring four times, while Chelsea managed to scrape a win despite playing with ten men for the best part of an hour.

Leicester’s two home games have hardly been encouraging either, throwing away a two-goal lead to draw against Brentford and throwing away a one-goal lead to lose against Southampton. Such a poor start might be excusable in isolation, but it is an unmitigated disaster when coupled with Leicester’s abject business in the transfer window.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

Manchester United, meanwhile, have recovered from a similarly awful start to the season to win back-to-back Premier League games for the first time since February.

United’s win at Southampton was their first on the road since February, while a win at the King Power would see them win three games on the bounce since December last year. However, United should be confident of a Win against a struggling Leicester.

Both teams to score? No

United kept their first away league clean sheet since December in the 1-0 at St. Mary’s on Saturday afternoon and face a Leicester side that have scored in each of their four Premier League games. However, United have shown a newfound steel in their defensive approach since the 2-1 win over Liverpool two weeks ago.

The pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez appear to have gelled together already, while Tyrell Malacia already looks more competent than Luke Shaw. With Casemiro likely to make his debut in front of the United back four, Erik Ten Hag’s side look capable of recording another clean sheet on the road and Both Teams To Score? No.

Over 2.5 Manchester United Cards

United’s discipline has been questionable so far this season. Ten Hag’s side have collected at least three yellow cards in every game so far, picking up four in the 4-0 defeat at Brentford three weeks ago.

It is hardly surprising, given that they persist with Scott McTominay in central midfield, while tenacious defenders like Martinez are always a good bet to enter the referee’s notebook. Bruno Fernandes is always likely to talk himself into trouble, while Diogo Dalot has already managed to pick up two bookings in the opening four games of the season.

Casemiro, meanwhile, is hardly known for his perfect disciplinary record. United’s poor disciplinary record is likely to continue on Thursday night, especially if Ten Hag’s side are forced to dig in as they were at St. Mary’s at the weekend. I like the price on United to have Over 2.5 Cards.

Bruno Fernandes to have 2 or more shots on target

Fernandes may like a moan, but he has greatly improved since the start of the season and the end of the last campaign. The fact that he has started to find form again since Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out is no coincidence. Fernandes has been visibly affected by the arrival of his Portuguese teammate last August.

Several pundits raised concerns about the duo’s ability to play together before Ronaldo signed and those concerns have proved prophetic, with Fernandes posting by far his worst season since joining United. Fernandes, however, appears to have rediscovered his form and took his goal brilliantly to give United a win over Southampton.

He is likely to be brimming with confidence on Thursday night and will look to test Danny Ward as often as possible. Fernandes has attempted ten shots in the Premier League this season at an average of 2.5 per game, finding the target on two occasions.

Two of those attempts on target were registered in the win over Southampton, however, and Fernandes is good value to match that tally at the King Power. As such, Fernandes to Have 2 or More Shots on Targets rounds us off.
