Friday 8pm: Luton v Sheffield United
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football
Sheffield United to Win
It’s early days but Luton are struggling to replicate their performances last season which saw them make it into The Championship playoffs courtesy of a 6th-placed finish. They’re down in 18th with five points from five games while their opponents on Friday, Sheffield United, top the table and are outperforming their efforts last term which led them to finish level on points with The Hatters.
They meet here at a crossroads. Can The Blades kick on and return to the top flight? Have Luton reached their ceiling? The 90 minutes on the TV on Friday night will go a long way to telling us and I’ll try to work it all out with a four-fold Bet Builder here.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
The Blades are, understandably, Paddy’s big favourites to win, but they haven’t won away from home this term and have avoided defeat just once in their three away days. Luton, however, have taken one point from their two home games and their only win of the season came last time out at Swansea.
United’s away form is worrying but they have visited some of the teams expected to be mixing it at the top of the table come the end of the season, Watford and Middlesbrough. They’ve got the highest xG in the league and have missed the most gilt-edged opportunities as well as scoring the most. They should overpower Luton so we’ll start with Sheffield United to Win.
Over 2.5 Goals
While Luton generally try to keep things tight, United supporters have witnessed loads of goals this season. The Blades have had Over 2.5 Goals in each of their last three games, a run that’s seen 10 goals.
The Hatters have had Overs just once, the 3-2 Carabao Cup loss to League Two’s Newport, but there’s been two goals in each of their last two so they’re not a million miles away. But, given United’s attacking numbers, I think we would be wise to side with Over 2.5 Goals.

Both Teams To Score
While Luton have been far from prolific this season they’ll fancy their chances of breaching their visitors on Friday night. The Blades are lethal going forward but they need to be as they’ve conceded in four of their six matches this season.
Luton have only scored three in their five league games but they’ll certainly get at least one good opportunity to get on the scoresheet. They’ve been a bit wasteful but we’ll back Both Teams To Score here as United seem to enjoy going forward too much to put too much focus on keeping them out at the back.
Oliver Norwood to Score or Assist
Spearheading The Blades’ attack is Ollie Norwood. Iliman Ndiaye is their top scorer on three but Norwood has three direct goal involvements with a goal and two assists.
The former Brighton, Fulham and Reading midfielder been their standout player so far and I think we’re getting a great price on Norwood to Score or Assist. If he’s not firing the shots he’s loading the bullets so I’m happy to back him to play a big part again here.
