West Ham can taste European football and it don’t taste like jellied eels. It tastes like midweek headaches in a World Cup year, but that’s of secondary importance. Nice to think that if West Ham win this, they can join the lofty ranks of Europe’s elite, like Shamrock Rovers.
Ultimately, West Ham will prevail because of Viborg’s own naivety. Even in London in the first leg, Viborg had more of the ball. That’s not tying into your perception of how this game would go is it?
But genuinely – 51% possession and 86% passing accuracy. That’s higher than Liverpool’s in the Premier League. They’re very well-drilled, honestly. But the issue lies exactly there.
West Ham can always force an issue against low block with Michail Antonio but it’s not their preference. Their best players play in time and space. And that’s exactly what they’re being handed despite a brilliant display in opposition in the first leg. You can probably even expect them to have more of the ball as West Ham Win.

Which should well lead to two things – both teams scoring. Viborg had nine shots in the first leg. That’s one more than West Ham had, if you’re keeping count – so they’re well able to test the goalkeeper and even that alone is wild to some people. There is life outside the Premier League folks.
Clint Leemans and Christian Sorensen are all capable of finding the net on a regular basis, having each netted multiple times in their domestic league this season so I like Both Teams To Score.

Viborg will prod very carefully and very slowly because they can’t afford to make mistakes early doors as the tie will be over. As they’ve shown, they find it quite easy to maintain possession and craft opportunities from there.
But West Ham know they’ll have to manage this tie rather than this particular game – and that’s the key to all this. It’ll be level at half time with The Draw.
