The Premier League’s leading marksmen are preparing to lace up their shooting boots for another season.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS

Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-Min shared last year’s Golden Boot after each finding the back of the net on 23 occasions, but fresh competition will no doubt be provided by two of the biggest movers in this summer’s transfer window, Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez.

I’m sure you’ll be absolutely stunned to learn that Erling Haaland is the favourite to win the Golden Boot. Manchester City’s blockbuster summer signing scored for fun at previous club Borussia Dortmund – 86 goals in 89 appearances in all competitions – while Pep Guardiola’s team topped the Premier League goals for tally in each of the last five seasons. That’s a deadly combination so he looks the one to beat!

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has topped the Premier League scoring charts three times, although he shared last season’s prize with Son Heung-Min and the 2018/19 gong with Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. A long-term contract extension has settled speculation about his Anfield future as he bids to equal Thierry Henry’s record of four Golden Boot victories.

Harry Kane is also gunning for a fourth Golden Boot as he bids to bounce back from his joint-worst return in front of goal last season. To be fair to the lad, Spurs weren’t at the races for a chunk of the campaign until Antonio Conte began to work his magic in the dugout.

After years of playing second fiddle through the middle and out wide for Manchester City, it looks like Gabriel Jesus will finally get his chance to be the main man in attack having joined Arsenal for £45m. The Brazilian hit a brace on his pre-season bow for the Gunners… is that a sign he’s nailed on for a big campaign?

Tottenham ace Son-Heung Min enjoyed the best season of his career to date as a final-day double at Norwich took his tally to 23 top-flight goals to earn a share of the Golden Boot. A return to the Champions League and the signing of Richarlison could mean the South Korean hitman gets the occasional breather in league games next season.

The other major attacking arrival to the Premier League in this transfer window, Darwin Nunez, is set to lead the Liverpool attack following Sadio Mane’s exit to Bayern Munich. The Uruguayan caught the eye for Benfica in the Champions League with six goals in 10 appearances – including two against the Reds in the quarter-finals – last season while he struck 26 times in the Portuguese league. Big things are expected from the £85m man.

Cristiano Ronaldo‘s future at Manchester United is in question after the Red Devils missed out on a Champions League place. He was one of the few players to emerge from the club’s car-crash campaign with any credit in the bank, however, as he managed to hit 18 league goals. A new era beckons at Old Trafford under Erik ten Haag, who guided former team Ajax to 200 goals in the last two Eredivisie seasons.
