As the third and final team to earn promotion to the Premier League, Nottingham Forest had the least time to prepare for the new season but the Tricky Trees have been busy bees in the transfer market with a whole new team of players arriving. Steve Cooper was hailed as a miracle worker for taking Forest from the bottom of the Championship to play-off glory and he’ll need to work his magic once again to survive in the top flight. A trip to Newcastle, the world’s richest club, awaits on the opening day.

Fulham fired more than 100 goals on their way to the Championship title last season but a limited summer of transfer activity has hindered Marco Silva’s preparations. The Whites will be hoping it’s third time lucky as they to shed the yo-yo tag having flitted between the divisions since 2017. They welcome Liverpool to Craven Cottage on the opening day.
Leeds started the final day of last season in the relegation zone but a dramatic win at Brentford ensured they retained their place in the top tier. The likes of Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra, Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen and Marco Roca have arrived for decent-sized fees as Elland Road bigwigs look to back head coach Jesse Marsch. They host Wolves on the opening weekend of the season.
Brentford enjoyed a fine campaign on their Premier League debut but second-season syndrome has caught out many teams over the years. The departure of Christian Eriksen is a blow for the Bees but Keane Lewis-Potter and Aaron Hickey are exciting additions while Ben Mee adds extra steel to the backline. Thomas Frank’s team travel to Leicester on the first Saturday of the new term.
It went a bit unnoticed how bad Southampton‘s form in the closing weeks of the last campaign was. A return of two points from their final 12 games should have alarm bells ringing at St Mary’s and they’ve refreshed their squad with a number of youthful additions. A tricky trip to Spurs is first up for the Saints.
