Paddy Power ambassador and Liverpool legend Phil Thompson returns to take a look at the delayed Carabao Cup semi final first leg between Liverpool and Arsenal. The original first leg was supposed to take last week but was called off because of Covid.
Liverpool are without Mo Salah and Sadio Mane who are off at the Africa Cup of Nations while Arsenal will be smarting after crashing out of the FA Cup 3rd round to Championship side Nottingham Forest at the weekend. With plenty to ponder, here’s Thommo’s Liverpool v Arsenal tips.
You’ve got to fancy Liverpool on home soil. Being a Liverpool fan I’m a little bit disappointed this game is now the first leg and that the second leg will be at The Emirates which is giving Arsenal a bit more of a chance.
Liverpool having the second leg at Anfield I think made them strong favourites. But, as we know, a home game against Arsenal does constitute goals for Liverpool.
There’s no Mo Salah, there’s no Sadio Mane, so it is going to be difficult in the attacking department. Who will start up front for Liverpool? I’m not sure whether Divock Origi is fit but I do still fancy Liverpool to Win this.
They will have everyone back, most of the ones with Covid will be alright. They ended up being 1-0 down against Shrewsbury on Sunday, but ran out comfortable winners in the end.
If you want some goal predictions I’m going 2-0 to Liverpool. I do fancy Diogo Jota to Score Anytime as well. I think Arsenal might be damaged from last week. They made some changes and came unstuck against Nottingham Forest.
