Aston Villa might be fancying their chances against Manchester United on Monday. The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Wolves last time out to prompt another wide-ranging post mortem but they’ll be looking to bounce back on Monday night.
Here to asses their chances is Paddy Power ambassador and Liverpool great Phil Thompson who’s shown his trademark stamina to guide us through the final game of the weekend. But who’s Thommo backing on Monday night?
United’s problems – how long have we got? We could do a whole show on this subject! It’s so difficult, isn’t it, for Man United, the supporters of them. It’s going wrong on the pitch, it’s going wrong off the pitch.
And what of Villa? Steven Gerrard going to Old Trafford. Do you think he’ll get any stick? Wow! He’ll get some stick and he’ll love it! Stevie always loved it. This is going to be one of the great 3rd round ties, I feel. It’s wonderful.
But, after a good run, Stevie’s lost two against Chelsea and against Brentford and that won’t have gone down well. They’ve lost the last six FA Cup matches so they’ve not had a good run in the FA Cup.
Has it been that the managers are not treating it correctly? He will want to get off to a good start in the 3rd round. Man United, they were sort of doing alright but was it a surprise it went wrong against Wolves?
I tipped them to beat Wolves but have they flattered to deceive? They beat Norwich 1-0 and drew with Newcastle 1-1. Quite underwhelming really, the performances. I think they will just pip this one because of the demands of the fans.
It should be a packed Old Trafford, 76,000 for this FA Cup 3rd round game on Monday night, freezing cold. It should hopefully be a cracker. I think Manchester United will pip this one 2-1.

I fancy Edinson Cavani to Score Anytime. I do think he will play because he’s been sparingly used. If you want a scorer for the Villa, Ollie Watkins to Score Anytime. I think Stevie will go quite strong.
