While the Premier League takes a short break until after Christmas there’s still plenty of football to keep up going until the turkey and ham has been polished off. On Tuesday night we’ll be looking at fixtures from Serie A, where Atalanta can leap into second place with an away win over struggling Genoa and Juventus can gain some ground on the leading teams should they beat second-from-bottom Cagliari.
Sevilla entertain Barcelona in La Liga, but kicking us off is a revitalised Arsenal taking on Sunderland in a Carabao Cup quarter-final. Let’s see what value we can find in the betting markets.
HELLO FROM PADDY POWER NEWS!
19:45 Arsenal v Sunderland: Arsenal To Win And Both Teams To Score
Watch on Sky Sports Main Event / Sky Sports Football
Arsenal are enjoying a mighty home run of late and have now gone 10 games undefeated at the Emirates in all competitions. Manager Mikel Arteta will make some alterations to his starting XI, particularly as he named an unchanged side in their most recent 1-4 victory away to Leeds (something a Gunners manager hasn’t done since 2015). Their overall form is pretty decent of late, winning three and losing two over their last five.
Sunderland have won two of their last five overall games, while their away form has seen them win just one, drawing two and losing two. The visitors have had a decent cup run so far though, beating Port Vale, Blackpool and Wigan and putting QPR out after penalties last time out. The Gunners have beaten AFC Wimbledon and Leeds over their two EFL Cup games.
The home side have scored 10 over their last five at home and while they’ve won much praise for keeping clean sheets, the changes here are likely to bring a little disruption to that. Also, they are facing a Black Cats side who have netted in all but two of their last nine away games and they should be able to draw some blood here.
19:45 Genoa v Atalanta: Atalanta To Win To Nil
Watch on BT Sport 3
Genoa have been pretty awful this season, winning just one of their 18 Serie A games, drawing seven and losing 10. Atalanta have won 11, drawn four and lost three. The home side have lost three of their last five at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris, only scoring in two of those five games.
The visitors have won seven of their eight away league games this campaign, and against a side who are short on quality in the opposition box, we have to go with Atalanta to be victorious without letting one in here.
19:45 Juventus v Cagliari: Juventus To Win To Nil
Watch on BT Sport 2
Since losing to both Chelsea in the Champions League at home and to Atalanta the following weekend, Juventus have now enjoyed a run of five games without a loss. On home soil, the Old Lady have won four of their last five at the Allianz in all competitions. That’s not going to be much of a test here, as Cagliari haven’t won a Serie A game since mid-October – a run of 10 games where they only picked up four points; all of which were from draws.
Juve have kept three clean sheets over their last five at home in the league, while The Isolani have only scored in one of their last six on their Serie A excursions. This one has Juventus to win to nil written all over it.
20:30 Sevilla v Barcelona: Over 2.5 Goals
Watch on Premier Sports 1 and LaLigaTV
Sevilla have a great opportunity to heap more misery on Barcelona here, the Catalans have won just two of their last five in all competitions – scoring eight goals and conceding 10 over that run. The home side are yet to taste defeat at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this season and in the league they’ve won seven of their eight games there. Meanwhile, in Sevilla’s five most recent matches they have scored 12 while conceding six.
Barca’s away La Liga form obviously isn’t the best, with just one win over their five most previous games, while they’ve netted eight and conceded nine at the other end.
Goals should at least be on the menu then here with those records, and Over 2.5 Goals has landed in three of Sevilla’s last five home La Liga games, in three of the visitor’s last five on the road too and also in three of the last five league meetings between the sides at the home of Sevilla. With both sides scoring and conceding plenty of late, we have to have a nibble of Over 2.5 goals here.
