Barcelona president Joan Laporta has asked the founding members of the ill-fated European Super League to form their own breakaway competition, again.
Laporta made the move following Barca’s first UEFA Champions League group stage in elimination in over 17-years.
The 59-year-old hosted an impromptu Zoom meeting with the owners of the other 11 founding member clubs to gauge their interest in reviving the failed project.
‘Is there anything to be said for another European Super League, lads?’, asked an agitated Laporta while stood in front of a blackboard with ESL written on it in chalk.
‘That’s our best idea? Another European Super League?’, replied Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer.
‘I thought the other one went very well. Oh, I do love a good breakaway European Super League’, answered Laporta.
Still smarting from the resulting fallout of the previous doomed Super League proposal, Glazer along with the owners of the other clubs left the Zoom meeting without notification.
It leaves the Catalan club with no other option but to compete in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy of European football, otherwise known as the Europa League.
‘This is all f**king Paris Saint-Germain’s fault’, wrote Laporta in a longwinded Facebook rant perforated with snake emojis.
‘Everything was going just fine until Neymar and Messi f**ked off to the Farmer’s League for oil money’.
‘It wasn’t fair how PSG talked publicly about our players. Barcelona would never destabilize a player and have them force a move from their club. Isn’t that right Philippe and Ousmane?’.
Meanwhile, one club who is eagerly anticipating Barca’s entrance into the Europa League is Arsenal.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
‘It’s always nice to see a fellow former big club in the competition’, said Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke.
‘You can’t beat an away game in Latvia on a Thursday night’.
‘And luckily for Barca, there’s not a Thomas Muller in sight’.
