NEW TO PADDY POWER?
How many Goals will there be in the game?
Under 2.5 Goals looks a fair price. It’s a bet that would have won in both of the league meetings between these two sides last season and one suspects that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will set up United to park the proverbial bus to avoid the prospect of another humiliation like the one dished out by Liverpool a couple of weeks ago.
Sitting with a deep defensive line and playing on the counter-attack is an approach that has served Solskjaer well in this fixture before and he will be encouraged by the fact that City’s strikerless attack has been held scoreless by both Crystal Palace and Southampton this season.
Who Will get Booked?
There’s plenty of viable candidates to get booked but Bernardo Silva makes some appeal. The Portuguese maestro is more physical than you would expect for a player of his stature and has already accrued a couple of bookings this season. He and Rodri look City’s most viable candidates in this market.
Who will score?
Phil Foden is on the verge of becoming a world-class footballer and will be a huge threat on Saturday playing as City’s false nine. He found the net in midweek against Club Brugge and should be a huge threat against a United central defence that will lack pace in the absence of Rafael Varane. It looks a fair price on Foden finding the net.
For those looking for a bigger-priced punt, John Stones at around double figures is the way I would turn. His goal broke the deadlock when these sides met in the league cup last season and United always look vulnerable defending set-pieces.
Who will get an assist?
Gabriel Jesus has thrived in a wide attacking role this season with already five assists to his name in only eight Premier League matches. The Brazilian always looked miscast as a central striker with his finishing and hold-up play never quite convincing but he is showing that he can be a more than able provider of chances.
Score prediction
I’m expecting a fairly facile 2-0 victory for City who should dominate possession and control a very limited United midfield. Varane is a huge blow for United and its hard to see a back three of Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Harry Maguire keeping City’s pacey attackers at bay.
