Things are hotting up in the race to qualify for next summer’s World Cup. With just a few games to go now the top teams are starting to pull away and over the two rounds of fixtures over the coming days much will be decided.

We’ve gone through the best of the games on offer on Friday night in search of value and found a five-fold that’s teeming with it. Let’s have a look then at what we’ve found.

19:45: Czech Republic v Wales – Czech Republic to Win

Czech Republic and Wales both sit on seven points in second and third position in Group E. They haven’t a hope of catching Belgium ahead of them so it’s going to come down to these two in regards to who qualifies for the playoffs. Wales have a slight advantage over the Czechs with a game in hand, however, that is against the Belgians in their final match.

Both teams then simply cannot afford to lose here and the Czechs are in the better form. Of their last five games they’ve won two, drawn one and lost two while Wales have won one, drawn two and lost two. However, over games played on Czech soil, the home side have won four of their last six, drawing the other two. Looking at Wales’ away games (not including the Euros) they’ve only won two, drawn one and lost two. Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale hasn’t made the trip with an injury and Wales have failed to score in four of their last five matches. Without their main threat missing it’s going to be a tough night for Robert Page’s side. We have to go with the Czechs to win here.

19:45: Germany v Romania – Germany -2

Germany are top of Group J with 15 points, winning five and losing one of their six games so far. Romania are in third position on 10 points with three wins, one draw and two losses. The Germans have plenty of goals in their squad and have scored 17 over their six games, conceding just two while Romania have been decent in the last third of the pitch, scoring nine and conceding six. Over their last three games alone Germany have scored 12 unanswered goals while Romania, over their last three away trips, failed to score in two of them.

Romania can lose here and still qualify should they beat second-placed Armenia next week so they’ll know only too well that this isn’t the match to exert themselves in. Germany could run riot, they’ve scored 13 over their last two at home. We have to take them on the -2 Handicap here.

19:45: Latvia v Netherlands – Netherlands to Win and Both Teams to Score

Netherlands and Norway top Group G on 13 points but the away side here are ahead with a superior goal difference. Over their six matches, the Dutch have won four, drawn one and lost one, scoring 22 and conceding six. Latvia have only won one match, drawing two and losing three, scoring seven and conceding 10.

The Latvians are resolute enough to get on the scoresheet here, they’ve scored at least one over four of their last five at home and Netherlands have conceded in four of their last five on the road (excluding their Euro matches). The Netherlands are obviously short-odds favourites here but we’re getting some great value in backing the Latvians to get at least one when they’re in decent goal-scoring form and the away side don’t keep many clean sheets.

19:45: Russia v Slovakia – Russia to Win

As it stands there are still four dogs in the race for qualification from Group H, Russia and Croatia both have 13 points after six games, Slovakia are just behind Russia on nine with Slovenia another two points behind Slovakia. Russia are far better form than their opponents here, they’ve won three of their last five games, drawing one and losing one. At home, they’ve won three and drawn two.

Slovakia have won just one of their last five fixtures, drawing one and losing three. Away from home, things are a bit better where they’ve won one of their last five, drawing three and losing one. Slovakia have really struggled for goals of late, scoring in just three of their last seven games. With a record like that and coming up against a Russian side who are strong at home we have to go with the Russians here.

19:45: Turkey v Norway – Both Teams to Score

Turkey are third on 11 points in Group G, Norway are two points ahead on 13 points. The Turks are the favourites with the market here but the Norwegians are in the superior form. Turkey have won just one of their last five games, drawing one and losing three. Norway over their five most recent fixtures have won three, drawn one and lost one.

The Turks are pretty decent at home, they’ve won two and drawn three of their last five on home turf, scoring nine and conceding six. Norway have won three of their last five away games, drawing one and losing one, scoring seven and conceding four. Tempting to go with Norway here as their overall form is the better of the two but Turkey’s home record means value isn’t on our side. Both Teams to Score with two teams scoring and conceding plenty is the best way to go here.
