Lionel Messi’s £94 million contract with Paris Saint-Germain stipulates the Argentine must lie on the ground to block free-kicks and clean the toilets at Le Parc des Princes, Paddy Power News can exclusively reveal.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Football fans around the globe were stunned when the 34-year-old superstar lay on the ground to prevent Man City scoring with a low shot from a free-kick last night.
However, it would appear the Parisian outfit are determined to get their money’s worth out of Messi by having the forward carry out a number of menial chores.
Details of his Paris Saint-Germain contract have been leaked by French publication L’Equipe, with their report claiming the former Barcelona playmaker must perform tasks including scrubbing the urinals in PSG’s stadium with a toothbrush; handwashing the first-team squad’s jock straps and arranging the catering for Neymar’s sister’s birthday.
It’s understood the six-time Ballon d’Or winner agreed to all the French club’s demands – except to stop undermining manager Mauricio Pochettino’s authority at every given opportunity.
‘The team is the most important thing’, Messi told PPN about the free-kick incident after the game.
‘That is why I like to pick it’.
‘Of course, some managers do not like it when I pick the team. But then I remind them I can always pick a new manager’.
When asked how it felt to score his first goal for PSG, he said:
‘Beautiful – and not just because my goal bonus is f**king massive’.
Meanwhile, ahead of Manchester United’s Champions League clash with Villarreal, Cristiano Ronaldo was asked about blocking free-kicks on the floor.
‘Every player must sacrifice himself for the good of the team. That is why I am prepared to tell Fred to lay on the ground’, the 36-year-old Portuguese told PPN.
‘The only time Cristiano lies down on the pitch is when there is the faintest of contact by the opposition’.
