To the uninitiated Tottenham v Chelsea is just another game between two of the big boys in the Premier League, but to the fans it’s much more than that. There’s some serious needle in this fixture and it always throws up something interesting from the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 2016 to all kinds of unsavoury nonsense off the pitch and plenty of cards on it.
But this might be a rather nice affair. There’s no Antonio Conte or Jose Mourinho to spice things up in the dugout, just Thomas Tuchel with his hip-just-qualified-teacher vibes and the stern-but-fair Nuno Espirito Santo trying to stay out of the limelight.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Chelsea have been superb so far this season, fully justifying their pre-season title credentials. Tottenham have started better than expected but blew up last weekend and have hardly been playing free-flowing football.
Despite being the away side, Chelsea are big favourites with Paddy’s traders and it’s not hard to see why. It’s the biggest game of the weekend and I’ve carefully constructed a beautiful Bet Builder for the main event on Sunday.

Sunday 4.30pm: Tottenham v Chelsea
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Chelsea to Win
Chelsea always seem to beat Spurs on their own patch. In fact, Tottenham are in a three-way tie for the team beaten most often by Chelsea away from home during the Premier League era on 13 defeats. I think they’re about to go clear of the pack on 14 on Sunday.
Chelsea have won three of their four games in the Premier League this season with just the 1-1 draw away at Liverpool with 10 men blotting their copy book. Spurs had won their first three 1-0 but capitulated away at Crystal Palace last weekend, slumping to a 3-0 defeat, also having a man sent off themselves.
But there’s no doubt that Chelsea have been far more impressive of the two. They’ve got a good record away at Spurs, are in flying form and hardly ever concede. Chelsea to Win kicks us off against what looks like being an injury-hit Tottenham side.
Under 2.5 Goals
Under 2.5 Goals feels like, dare I say it, a bit of a banker. Chelsea have conceded one Premier League goal all season while Spurs have kept a clean sheet in three of their four domestic matches. Spurs have only scored three this season while The Blues have scored nine in four.
Tottenham are getting better at the back and Espirito Santo likes to build from a strong base so it’s little surprise that’s the case, it just seems to have completely stifled their attack. I suspect Chelsea will win this 1-0 or 2-0 and, if I’m right, our Bet Builder keeps rolling along.
Under 10.5 Corners
Rolling along to Under 10.5 Corners that is. Neither of these two rack up lots of corners whenever they play. In fact, Chelsea are averaging exactly 5 corners per match over their four domestic games this term which is on the low side for a team with 10 points from 12 games.
For Spurs the number is 5.25. That figure is bumped up by the 10 they had against Watford but other than that the most they’ve mustered is four. With this being quite a tense affair, and with both trying to wrestle possession of the ball rather than bolting forward and getting it down the flanks, Under 10.5 Corners is the way to go.
Harry Kane to Have 1 or More Shots on Target
While I think Chelsea will keep him out there’s no doubt Harry Kane is going to get 1 or More Shots on Target, even if it’s a desperate 25-yard drive or one bundled towards goal from a cross.
He’s averaging a shot on target per match in the Premier League which is the most of any Spurs player likely to be taking to the field with Son Heung-Min (6 shots on target in 4 games) an injury doubt.
Romelu Lukaku to Score First
And to his attacking counterpart, Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has been brilliant since his return to Stamford Bridge, scoring four goals in four games. He looks dangerous every time he gets the ball and seems to be twice the player he was at Manchester United.
He’s scored in three separate games so far and each time he’s got the first in the match. In a tight game that I think Chelsea will dominate, Romelu Lukaku to Score First is a great bet.
