New season, same old Arsenal. If Mikel Arteta was lucky to cling onto his job following a shambolic start to last season then God knows what he is now.

After a disappointing summer in the transfer marker, Arsenal have made a poor start to the 2021/22 season including a 5-0 smashing at the hands of champions Man City to shocking opening night defeat to newly-promoted Brentford as well as a routine 2-0 loss against Chelsea.

That Brentford result sent tremors through Paddy’s Next Arsenal Manager and Premier League Sack Race markets. After the final whistle at the Brentford Community Stadium Arteta came flying in from 12/1 to 6/1 and second favourite for the Sack Race.

The morning after the game he was firm favourite at 7/2 – at one stage he moved into shorter than Evens to be the first to go. Whatever happens it’s not been plain sailing for the Spaniard and the Gunners hierarchy might be starting to glance around the managerial market.

And, when the feint sound of axe sharpening wafts across The Irish Sea and into the ears of Paddy’s traders they get busy trying to work out who’s next in line for big jobs. So, here’s your runners and riders to be the Next Arsenal Manager.

Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers

Maybe things have just started to go a little stale under Brendan Rodgers at Leicester? The former Celtic and Liverpool boss certainly gets his teams playing good football but would he be tempted to swap his squad for Arteta’s?

Eddie Howe

Eddie Howe‘s been enjoying life on the beach for the past year so you can’t exactly blame him for rejecting Celtic’s overtures over the summer. The former Bournemouth boss kept the Cherries in the top flight for the best part of five years so he’s got know-how at the bottom end of the Premier League table.

Antonio Conte

Firecracker boss Antonio Conte could be the man to light a few fires under the backsides of the under performing and often gutless Arsenal players. He also demands plenty of his board and expects vast sums of money to be spent. His spells are often short but sweet.

Graham Potter

This one could be a really good fit. Brighton boss Graham Potter plays entertaining football but has perhaps been a little hampered by a lack of funds to sign the quality forwards he needs to really make a mark. Maybe he’ll get that at Arsenal and who wouldn’t want to see Shane Duffy strutting his stuff week in week out at The Emirates?

Graham Potter

Steven Gerrard

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has made a great start to his managerial career, winning the Premiership title and ending Celtic’s stranglehold on Scottish football. Would he be tempted to head back to England for anywhere other than Anfield, though?

Gian Piero Gasperini

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has built a bit of a reputation of playing beautiful but ultimately flawed football in Serie A. A perfect fit for The Emirates, then.
