On paper, this Tottenham v Man City match is nearly the pick of the opening weekend’s games with much of the fanfare focused around two of England’s summer stars of the Euros. The will-he, won’t-he transfer saga is still ongoing around Harry Kane nad unsurprisingly, the man himself is listed as doubtful to take any part in proceedings this weekend.
One Three Lions star who has made the move to the Etihad is the wonderfully talented playmaker Jack Grealish, who is likely to make his league debut in this contest.
Sunday 16:30 – Tottenham v Man City
Sky Sports Main Event / Sky Sports Premier League
With a lot going on behind the scenes at Spurs (Kane, a new manager and finally, some new signings) it is hard to know where their collective heads are at ahead of the big kick-off. None of their new signings appear to be match ready for Sunday and with wantaway Kane still in the shadows, it is difficult to assess how they will approach this game.
City look set to be without key men Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne – and some international players are returning late after a busy summer, so Pep Guardiola’s side also look to have an uncertain starting 11.

The Draw
As this is the opening league match of the season, it’s hard to rely too heavily on last year’s form – particularly given how many absences and issues both sides have. Spurs remained unbeaten in their pre-season warm-ups, and City let the Community Shield slide with a 1-0 defeat to Leicester last weekend.
With all the moving parts and unknowns around attitude, Nuno Espirito Santo’s Spurs team may look to catch City on the hop and take at least a point from this game, if not more. City are favourites to win, but at the prices, we should look to oppose them with this being the first game of the campaign.
As stated from the outset, this doesn’t scream of an obvious result to me and Spurs, despite having their own issues, may well get something here. It should be a cagey enough affair and, following their poor showing last week, Man City may well struggle to take all three points. Backing The Draw will offer you a very good run for your money, as I do not see this being a high scoring affair.
Son Heung-min To Have One Or More Shots On Target
Son Heung-min may well start up front on his own for Spurs this Sunday and will carry a fair threat leading the line. He’s never been afraid of a shot, and don’t be surprised if he tests the City keeper on more than one occasion.
Fernandinho To Be Booked
36-year-old Fernandinho hits the dance floor again for his 20th season as a professional footballer. Last term he had the highest bookings per minutes played ratio (and by some way I might add), all while being a Man City player. He’ll likely have to defend against pacey compatriot Lucas Moura for 90 or so minutes and he’s well worth adding to your slip in the booking market.
Under 2.5 Goals
City have scored at least two goals in each of their last six away Premier League matches and there have also been three or more goals in six of their last seven league games. But, given all the issues involved in the respective camps that we’ve talked about, this could well be a drab affair. Take the Unders on offer for this one.
