Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson casts his eye over the blue half of Merseyside and weighs up their chances against Tottenham on Friday night. The Liverpool hero is *whisper it* confident that The Blues will get the job done.
He’s teamed up with the good folk at PPTV to serve up his best bet for Everton v Tottenham and Friday night. So, take it away, Thommo.
Friday 8pm: Everton v Tottenham
Both of these are not in great form. Everton are seven points off the top four and the last time they finished in the top four was the 04/05 season which was a long time ago now, so Evertonians are absolutely desperate to try and get there but it all seems to be falling apart all at the wrong time.
Everton now have just won one in the last eight at home and they’ve lost five of them which is quite astonishing. They’ve scored the most headed goals so they’ll be looking to take advantage of Spurs in that department but, they’ve not scored more and one goal in the last eight games at home.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
They’re obviously a bit nervous and it tells you that they’ve got eight more points away from home than at home. That’s poor because Goodison was always a bit of a bear pit.
Spurs were awful last week. I thought Manchester United were well worthy winners. I thought they played very well on the day. There were some dubious things with VAR again but Spurs… it seemed to unravel for Jose Mourinho at Manchester United and the same thing seems to be happening at Spurs.
Friday 8pm: Everton v Tottenham
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
They’re six points off the top four now, Spurs. They’ve lost seven of the last 13 Premier League games and they’ve dropped 18 points from winning positions so you’re seeing a bit of their character in that. There’s only Brighton, who have lost 20 points from winning positions, who are worse.
Spurs have lost six of their last 10 away from home. So, in this game, we have Everton who are not good at home and Spurs who are not good away. Harry Kane has scored nine in seven games against Everton but, do you know where I’m going to tell you to put your money? I think Everton turn up for the bigger games. It’s the smaller games that they fall down in.
THOMMO’S TIPS: I’m going for an Everton victory – just – 2-1 for me. Don’t tell too many people I’m going for Everton though!
