Man City extended their record-breaking run of consecutive wins to 18 when they claimed all three points at the Emirates on Sunday and they should have little trouble making it 19 wins on the trot when they take on Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday.
Pep Guardiola’s side look unstoppable in the Premier League and already seem guaranteed to secure their third league title in four seasons, so Guardiola will be keen to finally deliver in the Champions League again.
It is now 10 years since Guardiola last won a Champions League title and he is yet to reach the last four of the competition with City after bowing out against unfancied opposition every season. This is an excellent chance to start the knock-out campaign on the right foot against a Monchengladbach outfit that is without a win in their last four league games.
The German side are as equally capable of the ridiculous as they are of the sublime, as showcased by their inconsistent form in the Champions League group stages. They simply won’t be able to live with a City team that looks unbeatable at the moment.

Phil Foden to score any time
City are capable of scoring from any angle, making their goalscorers a nightmare to predict, but Phil Foden has emerged as one of their most important players in big games since the turn of the year.
The youngster scored in the crucial away victories at Everton and Liverpool, while he also equalised against Cheltenham in the fourth round of the FA Cup – ironically the closest City came to losing a game recently.
Foden has scored 11 goals this season – his most impressive season to date – and he is one of City’s top scorers in all competitions. He could easily improve that record on Wednesday night.

Both teams to score? No
City’s defensive transformation since their 5-2 humiliation at home to Leicester has been the most impressive part of their all-conquering form in recent weeks. Guardiola’s days looked numbered after a poor start to the season on the back of a disappointing campaign last year, but the arrival of Ruben Dias has changed everything.
City look impregnable with Dias and John Stones at the heart of their defence, and have conceded at least 10 fewer goals than any other team in the league. The league leaders have conceded just six goals in their last 18 games in all competitions. Monchengladbach may have scored at will during the group stages, they will struggle to break down City’s watertight defence.
Raheem Sterling to have two or more shots on target
After a difficult first half of the season, Raheem Sterling appears to be approaching top form. The English winger has scored in five of City’s last eight games and has found the back of the net in five of their last six away games.
Sterling averages two shots per game for City this season and will get plenty of chances on Wednesday night with the English side likely to dominate. At odds against, he is a very attractive price to register two shots on goal in Germany.
