7.45pm: Preston v QPR

Midtable battles don’t come much more midtable than this. 14th-placed Preston welcome 13th-placed QPR to Deepdale on Wednesday night in a game that should kill off any feint playoff hopes they have while QPR will be looking to keep their good form going and keep their unlikely promotion dream alive.

Preston might be better off looking over their shoulders. They’re 10 points clear of Rotherham in 22nd but The Millers have two games in hand over Preston who have lost four of their last five. In truth, neither of these two are likely to have much to play for once Easter has come and gone.

QPR to Win

Preston are a strange team. They’re 4th in the season-long away table but 22nd at home. They’ve lost nine games at Deepdale this season and Wednesday’s contest should see that figure tip over to double figures.

QPR are below average on their travels but they have hit a nice streak or form which is in complete contrast to PNE. As mentioned, Preston have lost four of their last five, only beating Blackburn away from home three games back.

The Hoops are in outstanding form which is why, of these two, they are the most likely to put up a late charge to crash the playoff party. They’ve won six of their last seven games and with that form, as well as Preston’s home results, everything points emphatically towards a QPR Win in this one.

Under 2.5 Goals

While Preston’s home record is pretty dreadful, they tend to only lose by the odd goal at Deepdale. In their last six home games Under 2.5 Goals has landed on five occasions.

The Rs have an identical record on this front away from home. This will be odds on but Under 2.5 Goals is the way to go based purely on the trends.

Half Time/Full Time: Draw/QPR

QPR’s wins have been coming by way of attrition. They simply don’t come rushing out of the blocks and blow teams away. In four of their last six games they’ve been drawing at half time before going on to win the game in the second half.

In the other two of that six they lost 1-0 to Derby and were trailing to Brentford at half time before turning it around in the second 45. There are a few potentially interesting trends in this game and Half Time/Full Time: Draw/QPR is definitely one worth pursuing.

Wednesday’s EFL acca

We’ve got a handful of other EFL games on Wednesday night and I think there’s some decent value to be had if you’re in the market for an acca.

6pm: Forest Green v Southend – Forest Green to Win to Nil

Forest Green are looking in good shape to win League Two this year. They’re a point behind Cambridge United in 2nd but have two games in hand over their rivals. Southend are still down at the wrong end of the table but they’ve finally crawled out of the relegation zone for the first time this season.

Southend just don’t score many goals. They’ve netted three times in their last six and they’ve scored FIVE in 14 games on the road all season, conceding 22. Rovers should win this and we’re backing The Shrimpers’ woeful away goal-scoring form to continue with Forest Green to Win to Nil.

7pm: Swansea v Coventry – Swansea to Win

Swansea suffered a shock, coupon busting loss to Huddersfield at the weekend in that was a painful day for Championship acca backers. They’ll be looking to bounce back against Coventry who pulled off their own surprise, beating Brentford in Saturday’s early game.

Obviously, we’re hoping lightening doesn’t strike again here, but we’ve got 4th at home to 20th on Wednesday night. That loss was The Swans’ first defeat in nine and Coventry’s win was their first in five. We’re expecting these two to revert to type with a Swansea Win.

7pm: Blackburn v Watford – Watford to Win

This is a clash between two teams in contrasting form. Watford have won their last three while Blackburn have lost their last four. The Hornets are 3rd in the second tier and Rovers are slap-bang right in the middle in 12th place.

Rovers have a blind spot when it comes to the better sides in the division and their record this term against the top half is dreadful. With the visitors in good nick, it’s well worth backing a Watford Win at a nice price.

7.45pm: Bournemouth v Cardiff – Cardiff (+1)

Mick McCarthy has the Midas touch. Well, in south Wales he does at least. Since the former Republic of Ireland manager landed at Cardiff via a short stint in Cyprus, the Bluebirds are undefeated in seven games. They drew the first two under his stewardship and have gone on to win the next five.

They have the 3rd-best away record in the league and travel to the south coast of England to take on Bournemouth. The Cherries are in shaky form with just two wins in their last nine. I’m very tempted to tip up an away win (there’s some interesting alternative handicap prices available, too) but I’ll play it safer with Cardiff (+1) on the handicap.
