Everton and Draw
Manchester City travel to Goodison Park in the Premier League on Wednesday. City are in incredible form having made it 16 wins on the trot in all competitions with a resounding victory against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
The Toffees themselves put five past Spurs last week in the FA Cup, eventually coming through in extra time in a game which left its mark on both teams, with Everton going down 2-0 to Fulham on Sunday. Everton can welcome the return of key players against City with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and the fit-again Seamus Coleman all expected to return.
Everton v Man City
Wednesday 8:15pm – Amazon Prime Video
Having won just one of their last five Premier League matches Everton’s top four prospects need a boost. Manchester City will be without Kevin De Bruyne and also Ilkay Gundogan who limped off with a groin injury having scored his eleventh Premier League goal against Spurs, while Sergio Aguero’s struggles continue and is expected to start on the bench.
Pep Guardiola no doubt will have one eye on the return of the Champions League in terms of team selection. Everton are desperate to improve on their recent form in the Premier League and with Manchester City’s injury concerns and with one eye on Europe I can see Everton getting something from the game.
Under 2.5 Goals
Manchester City’s defensive record is not as strong on the road, mainly because of their high standards at the Etihad. However, the visitors have still shipped just seven league goals away from home all season. The exceptional Ruben Dias should return to partner John Stones in what is the best centre-half partnership in the Premier League this season.
Everton have taken just one point from the last 12 on offer at Goodison Park, failing to score in three of those matches. Empty stadiums have affected home teams but none more so than The Toffees. Carlo Ancelotti is noted for his strong defensive coaching and no doubt will not be happy with Everton’s home record and how poor they have been in defence in recent games. The work on the training ground in recent days will surely focus on this and I expect a much better defensive showing against the best team in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Score Anytime
Carlo Ancelotti expressed optimism that Dominic Calvert -Lewin will return for Wednesday’s game. The injury picked up against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup looked minor and perhaps he was actually rested against Fulham on Sunday – a decision the manager will no doubt regret.
Long-term it will certainly benefit the player and having the week off will see Everton’s star man come into this game fresh. The 23-year-old has scored 13 Premier League goals already and will look to build on that against the best defence in the Premier League.
With England manager Gareth Southgate in the stands on Wednesday, there is a big incentive for him to show his class and I expect him to cause Manchester City plenty of problems. If Everton are to get something from the game I expect to see Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the scoresheet.
Gabriel Jesus To Have 2 Or More Shots
You have to go back over a year for Everton’s last meeting with Manchester City on New Year’s Day 2020, where two goals from Gabriel Jesus earned City the points on that occasion. While Everton tend to save their best displays for the top sides, Jesus will certainly have good memories of playing the Toffees.
The Brazilian is almost a certain starter, and while he may not get on the scoresheet this time, expect him to test the Everton defence more than once.
