For Friday night’s continental football, we have a mouth-watering double in store. We have one of the biggest matches in the Serie A calendar with the first Rome derby of the season. Lazio are the home side taking on their old foe Roma, while over in Portugal we have the Portuguese Classico where Porto face Benfica.
19:45 Lazio v Roma: Both Teams to Score – No Draw
The pressure will mostly be felt by the away side here and they’re currently third in the league on 34 points. They are six behind league-leaders AC Milan and a win here will put them right in the mix. Lazio need no more motivation than that right there. If they can put the skids on their fiercest of rivals, they’ll be doing all they can to do just that.
After a disappointing start to the season, Lazio’s form has really picked up over their five most recent games – where they’ve won three, drawn one and lost one. Their recent home form has seen them win two, draw one and lose two. Meanwhile, Both Teams to Score has occurred in four of those matches and Over 2.5 goals in three.
Roma are in fine fettle too as they’ve also won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five matches. Away from home, they’ve been victorious three times and lost two. Both Teams To Score landed in four of those matches and Overs occurring in all five, indeed Over 3.5 goals happened in all five even.
Both sides are in good goal-scoring form here, and both are conceding plenty as well, meaning we should see goals here and with just eight draws between them over 34 matches, we’re unlikely to see this ending all square.
21:00 Porto v Benfica: Both Teams to Score in the Second Half
With both teams sitting four points behind league leaders Sporting, this match could have massive ramifications on the title race. Both need to win, but these matches tend to be tight affairs with the home side winning two of the last five at the Estadio do Dragao, with Benfica winning one and two ending level.
Porto have only lost once at home in the league this season, winning all six of their other home fixtures. On the flips side, Benfica have won four, drawn one and lost one on their league travels. The home side have been averaging 2.57 goals per home game, conceding 1.14 to Benfica’s 2.17 scored and 1.0 conceded over their away matches.
Porto’s record of clean sheets at home is pretty good of late but against Benfica, at home in their league matches, they’ve conceded in seven out of their last 10 matches. There’s little value in the current Both Teams To Score odds though.
Porto have scored eight in the second half of their seven home league matches, while Benfica have scored seven in their six away league matches. They’re both also scoring 68.6% and 60.7% of their league goals in the second period of play.
